Chapter 156 – Migration (Part 1)

The broken puppet looked like a humanoid soldier wearing armor. Although it was now rusty, with its head, half an arm, and an entire leg missing, it wasn't difficult to imagine its former majestic appearance.

It seemed that it had been buried too long ago, resulting in most of the metal on the puppet decaying. As soon as System's tentacles touched it with a little force, the puppet's limbs began to crumble, causing scattered translucent particles to fall out.

System didn't know what material the particles were made of, but he could taste them. They had a fvor simir to salt, and the experience they provided wasn't bad.

Unfortunately, the particles were too scattered, so he couldn't collect them to take with him at all.

The encounter with the puppet passed quickly, and System and Ying continued moving forward through the ruins. After changing directions several times, they moved forward about two kilometers before finally finding the portal Ying had mentioned.

It was called a portal, but in fact, the portal wasn't in the shape of a door. It was more like a round, stone manhole cover with complicated, unknown patterns carved on its surface. The portal had a diameter of about two meters.

According to Ying, there were portals exactly the same as this one on both the 26th floor of the Abyss and the unknown floor.

As long as the portal was charged, one could teleport by standing on it and activating it with the correct type of power.

The power needed to activate the portal was very special. Even though there were several different powers in System's body, none of them were the right kind.

Only Ying could exert a special power on the portal, which caused it to glow with a faint blue light.

It was probably this energy requirement that had resulted in the portal being separated from the Abyss for so long without being discovered and collected.

After Ying used her special power, the portal's charge reached nearly one-third, and there were about forty days before it could be activated again.

System tried to move the stone disc with his tentacles and found that it was extremely heavy. It would basically be impossible to bring the disc back to the nest.

The stone disc was two meters in diameter, which wasn't very rge. It would obviously be difficult to teleport all of his ant subjects using this two-meter diameter portal.

However, System had already thought of a solution to this problem, which was to use the bck gem ring to connect to the Temple of Shadows.

The Shadow Key ring could be activated once every two weeks, and there were two ways to activate it.

One was for the user of the ring to teleport to the demipne together with the ring; the other was for the user of the ring to use the ring's power to teleport other things to the demipne.

What System had in mind was using the ring's second activation method. Not only would using the Temple of Shadows in the demipne as a transit station solve the problem of the small portal not being able to teleport all of his ant subjects, it would also greatly shorten the migration time.

As long as a small team carried the ring to the portal together, everything would be fine.

System had decided on the six teammates for the migration st night; Aura, who needed to stay outside to activate the ring; the strongest fighters, Shava and Meatball; Excavator, who was responsible for digging; Ying, who was responsible for opening the portal; and finally, himself.

After System made his decision, the blood in his body trembled inexplicably, then calmed down.

The feeling of uneasiness that had appeared more than ten days earlier disappeared. It seemed that because of his migration, the disaster that was about to happen in the Warren Pins would hardly affect him.

The feeling from his [Intuition] also made System more determined than ever to leave.

  ...

After not discovering anything unusual in the ruins, System decided to return quickly. However, on the way back, he saw another Death Knight. This one was fighting with an insect demon.

Because the insect demon's fmes were very conspicuous at night, System easily detected the battle happening more than ten kilometers away.

The strength of this Death Knight was obviously much weaker than the one System had seen st time. The skeletal warhorse also wasn't the kind that emitted blue fire; it was just an ordinary skeletal warhorse.

On the other hand, the insect demon fighting the Death Knight was nearly three meters tall. In addition to spurting fmes from its mouth from time to time, its hands also sprayed out tough and sticky silk threads. It was obvious that this insect demon had transformed from a spider demon.

The silk thread made the Death Knight's attacks increasingly slow, gradually causing it to fall into an unfavorable situation.

As the number of silk threads increased and the Death Knight's movements became more awkward, the giant insect demon gave up on its long-ranged attacks and rushed forward. With its strong physique, the insect demon instantly tore off the Death Knight's arms and threw them aside.

After that, the insect demon began using its cws to torture the Death Knight, who couldn't resist.

When she saw that System was watching the battle between the demon and the Death Knight with great interest, Ying sent a mental message.

"Most demons are like this. Even though they could kill the other party immediately, they torture them meaninglessly instead."

"Maybe they feel pleasure when they torture their enemies," System replied before quickly flying toward one of the Death Knight's arms.

It had to be said that the giant insect demon was very powerful. It had hurled the Death Knight's arm nearly two kilometers away.

System quickly peeled off the bck armor covering the arm after flying down, revealing a hairy arm. Judging by its appearance, it should be the arm of a gnoll.

"Could it be that the undead spellcaster transformed a gnoll warrior into a Death Knight? Or are these Death Knights themselves gnolls?"

System murmured to himself, feeling more and more confused about the changes happening in the Warren Pins.

He quickly shook his head. He had already decided to leave the troublesome Warren Pins. There was no point in thinking about these things.

He continued to inspect the Death Knight's arm. Unlike the arm of a gnoll zombie, the flesh on the Death Knight's arm seemed more solid. It had the esticity of ordinary flesh.

After using his antennae to sniff the Death Knight's arm, System wanted to throw it away, but he still put the arm in his mouth and took a bite.

As he'd expected, after biting off a small piece of flesh from the arm, he decisively spit it back out. The Death Knight's flesh was as foul as the bones of the skeletal warhorse with blue fmes. System couldn't bear it at all.

In addition to the Death Knight's flesh, System also gained another reward—a bck ring that was on one of the Death Knight's fingers. If his guess was correct, this bck ring should also be a magic item.

However, after thinking for a while, he threw the ring away. The golden acorn had attracted a druid before, and this ring might also end up attracting something.

He really didn't want to cause any trouble before migrating.

  ...

After leaving the pce where the insect demon and the Death Knight had fought, System and Ying flew back to the nest uneventfully. It had taken a day and a half for the two of them to successfully explore the portal in the ruins and return.

The only thing left to do was collecting food, after which they just needed to wait quietly for forty days.

However, before migrating, System still had an important matter to solve—dealing with Aura.

Although the butterfly controlled the Shadow Key ring, it was difficult for System to determine whether Aura was willing to help. After all, the butterfly was simply too zy.

System had to find a way to persuade Aura. Then, if his attempts at persuasion failed, he had to take advantage of the weaknesses in Aura's character and dig a few pits for the butterfly to jump into in order to achieve his goal.
