Chapter 42

  Supergirl heard the Citadel soldiers too late, 16 large aliens surrounded the 3 heroes,

  “I don’t think I can take this many at once” She muttered quietly to the others,

  “I know, we barely made it through the last batch” Wondergirl agreed, gritting her teeth as she wrapped her lasso around her hands and pulled it tight between them,

  “I don’t think we get a choice in the matter” Beast Boy said, grimly as they tightened into a triangle with their backs to each other,

  “When you’re right you’re right” Wondergirl agreed,

  “Then we fight,” Supergirl said, looking towards the sky as dark clouds moved in to cover the sun, and she was already feeling its absence.

  The soldiers continued to slowly move in on them, Beast Boy began growling, then everyone's attention was temporarily demanded by a shrill whistle tearing through the air, 1 of the large soldiers grabbed at the side of his neck in pain, he pulled a small arrow from it leaving a bloody wound behind, he looked amused for a second, then his face shifted to confusion as he stumbled backwards, he reached out to steady himself but found nothing and instead tumbled onto his back with a loud thud.

  Both groups turned to search for where the arrow had come from, they spotted a figure on a distance rooftop, they drew their bow back for a second shot, Wondergirl was the first to recover from her surprise, she darted forward and kicked off the ground soaring over the head of 1 of the soldiers, while in the air she arched her back and slid her lasso around his neck, she continued behind his back and yanked down hard as she landed throwing him over her and smashing him down the asphalt, but he recovered faster than Wondergirl had expected scrambling to his feet, he didn’t make it far though, the second arrow struck his chest and he tripped forward.

  The sound of the second soldier hitting the ground was overpowered by what sounded like a jet engine flying through the streets, Supergirl was the only 1 who got a look at the cause, a boy wearing a red and yellow costume came speeding down the street towards them, he span out of his run jabbing his elbow into 1 of the soldiers before dashing away and striking another in the chin with his knee.

  “Beast Boy” Supergirl called, reaching her arm out for him, he gripped her forearm and she tossed him into the air, he came down on 1 of their enemies, his fingers now long, sharp claws, Wondergirl was a few feet away fending off several soldiers, while arrows continued flying around them, Supergirl propelled herself off the ground into another group of soldiers.

  Supergirl slid down against a low brick wall, Wondergirl and Beast Boy were already laying on some nearby picnic tables, as soon as the fight was over the boy had taken off and the group decided to rest for a couple minutes to catch their breath, while they were sitting there it began to lightly rain, over the soft pattering of the raindrops Supergirl heard the boy approach again, far slower this time, when he arrived the others got their first good look at him and the archer from the rooftop who he was carrying.

  The boy was around 17, he had bright red hair, his crystal blue eyes visible through a pair of oversized red rimmed goggles, the top of his costume was bright yellow with a red lightning bolt in a white circle on his chest, he had bright red boots that were the same color as the bottom of the his costume the yellow and red met at a red belt, there were also red patches on his elbows, and he was wearing red fingerless gloves, his mask was connected to the top of his suit, and left his curly hair exposed.

  The archer was more than a foot shorter than him and her costume looked more amateurish than his, she was wearing an olive green crop top with a dark forest green muscle shirt that clung tightly to her thin muscular stomach, she wore short olive green running shorts with a thin electric green line running straight down either hip, where the shorts cut off matching tights took over and lead into a pair of brown boots that came up about 4 inches past her ankles, her hands up to about the first joint on each finger were tightly wrapped in white boxing tape.

  Her mask was made up of 2 separate pieces, the first piece was dark forest green and was tucked the neck of the muscle shirt, it was like a fitted gator with a cutout for her mouth and the lower half of her nose, it ended about mid way up her nose and scooped down under her ears, the second piece to the mask was a olive green wrap around domino mask with large cutouts for her large, steely blue, almond shaped eyes, like the boy she wore a pair of oversized goggles, though hers were the same olive green as the domino mask, the sides and back of her head were shave to about half an inch above the top of the domino mask, with the blond hair on top of her head pulled into a long ponytail that reached to near her shoulder blades.

  “Kid Flash, what are you doing here?” Wondergirl asked, she had sat up on her picnic table when she heard him approaching and swung her legs onto the bench,

  “Wondergirl, it’s been a long time” Kid Flash said, he sounded mostly happy to see her, but there was a hint of sadness in his voice, like a lot had changed since they had last seen each other, and not all for the better,

  “Flash and Arrow sent us” The girl answered Wondergirl's question, her voice was rough and somewhat hoarse sounding, like she had a perpetual sore throat,

  “Who are you guys?” Supergirl asked,

  “Kid Flash and Artemis, they’re Flash and Green Arrow’s sidekicks” Beast Boy answered, excitedly hopping off his picnic table,

  “We appreciate your help” Supergirl said, nodding to them,

  “Was that you guys?” Wondergirl asked, motioning towards the burning airship,

  “Yeah, that was us” Artemis answered.

  Suddenly there was a loud tearing sound above them and the 5 teenagers looked up to see a bus falling out sky several blocks away from them,

  “Please tell me I’m not the only 1 who saw bus fall out of nowhere” Artemis said,

  “I did always wonder what happened to the Magic School Bus” Kid Flash said, before picking Artemis off and dashing toward the impact site.
