Chapter 42: Final Wave I

The Keeper stirred from its eternal slumber. Its red eyes, the trait shared by all avatars, flashed as it woke up and realized what time it was. It was time to trounce the human who had dared to threaten it. It was a tier 20 being. Or in other words, a god. The mere fact that it wouldn’t even realize the presence of a being that wasn't even tier 5 yet was appalling and unsightly, so he needed to kill this weak presence before any other gods could find out about this.

It scanned Atlas perfectly, learning everything about him and his strengths and weaknesses. It was flabbergasted at what it saw. How was this human still alive? Atlas’s only strength was the sheer amount of skills that he possessed, as well as the power of the skills, he wasn’t even capable of pulling out the full potential of even a single one of his skills, he was really incompetent. The usurper was a being with great power, but its ability to harness that power was so low it was non-existent. The keeper let a smirk creep across its face as it set to work.

In a seemingly random cave that was located on Godhome, the Avatar of Greed, also known as the Keeper of the Tutorials, started to create a clone of itself, albeit extremely weak. In fact, it made it so weak so as to have an even lower chance of being noticed by other gods. When the clone was made, it sent it off to kill the usurper, effectively ending the problem in its mind and laying back down to continue its endless rest. It didn’t even bother to care that it had sent the clone a full 10 minutes before it should have, not thinking that it would matter seeing as the defier would be dead.

The clone was made with the fullest of intentions of the Avatar of Greed. It was so greedy, it hated wasting resources to create a clone but it was necessary, which was another reason for the lower tier of the clone. The clone was special for three reasons. One, its status sheet was identical to the usurpers at tier 2. Second, it had intelligence at the level of a tier 10 being. And third, it held the power, Avatar of Greed, which let it steal people skills and gain immense rewards because of its insane level of greediness. Disappointingly, it could only be at Z grade level, barely even high enough to be considered a skill, but the other gods would be alerted instantly if a new player appeared with a skill higher than that. Even a ZZ grade skill would be risky, and the Keeper didn’t want any risks.

The clone, which looked exactly like Atlas, descended on the Grove.

  ***

Atlas stood solemnly on the wall, creating spike after spike with no apparent pause. He just knew that the last wave would be by far the hardest, and he wasn’t willing to pause for even a second if it meant he would. With his upgraded Elemental Union it was far easier to quickly create spikes out of earth and coat them with debuffs, letting him work at a furious pace and have hundreds of spikes primed and ready to be deployed, and he still had over 10 minutes left! Just as Atlas’s confidence was beginning to build and he was beginning to feel ready for the final trial of impossible difficulty a message popped up.

Time left until final wave starts: 0

Atlas was shocked. He had just barely checked and saw that he had a total of 11 and a half minutes remaining, so what had gone wrong?

As Atlas was confused over this sudden change of fate, the air above his town began to twist and distort, bending and changing in odd and profound ways that made it difficult just to look at. Just as Atlas started to think that nothing would happen, the air all rushed towards a singular location and seemed to meld together, forming into a single being. Out of the condensing air stepped Atlas.

Atlas was confused for a brief moment and hurriedly used Master Scan to check the beings identity.

  Scanning…

The creature you are scanning is very similar to you, bringing up the entire stat sheet because of sheer familiarity.

Atlas recoiled in shock. Not only did it look exactly like him, but it was also an exact copy of him when he was tier two and level 162. There was only one difference between him and the clone, and that was Avatar of Greed. Atlas scoffed internally. A single skill wasn’t enough to close the gap between him and the clone, this was going to be the easiest wave yet.

He aimed all of the spikes at the clone and fired. The clone was inspecting its surroundings and glanced at the swarm of spikes before making a wall of earth with a simple wave of its hand.

Atlas just shook his head with a smirk on his face, it thought it could stop his swarm of spikes with just a weaker version of the same skill? Pathetic. Atlas watched as the spikes and wall collided. Atlas’s smirk quickly turned to shock as not a single spike was even able to dent the wall.

Atlas quickly used Skill Grandmaster to view the power of Avatar of Greed.

Avatar of Greed(Z): You are the definition of greedy, and your greed for power and money is endless, constantly pushing you to your limits to obtain anything and everything that you can. You will always covet others abilities and want them for yourself, no matter how much you like the person using the ability. All Exp acquisition is multiplied by 20. Whenever someone uses a skill around you, you can temporarily steal that skill, blocking further use of their skill until you use the skill that you stole. This effect can only be used once a day.

Atlas used his insane level of skill comprehension to create the skill and add it to his repertoire, before it got instantly combined with Avatar of Slow Death.

  Combining…

Avatar of Slow Profitable Death(Z): You are the incarnation of a slow and painful death that also profits you because of your immense greed. Procrastination and laziness increase by 10,000% and you have a slight chance to forget what you are doing at any point. You require at least 8 hours of sleep a day, and if you do not get it, your body falls into a coma for 12 hours. You will always covet others abilities and want them for yourself, but only if you do not have a close bond with whoever uses the ability. All Exp acquisition is multiplied by 10. You can temporarily steal a skill used around you, blocking their use of the skill for 5 minutes or until you use the skill. This effect can only be used once a day. You can summon dark black armor at will that gives multiple benefits depending on each piece of armor. Different effects work only as long as a certain number of armor pieces are intact. Pieces CAN be broken, but how durable the armor is depends on the wearers endurance. Armor pieces and their effects:

Helmet: Grim Reaper’s Senses: Your perception increases considerably, to the point where everything seems far slower than it actually is. You are slightly slower to your own senses. Your hearing is also vastly improved, to the point where you can hear frequencies that other humans cannot, such as a bats screech. Your taste does not change. Your sense of touch can feel the slightest shift of even the air (only works on non-harmful items). Your sense of smell becomes greater than that of a bloodhound. If you are not moving while using this skill, all senses are doubled from what they are when moving. Your eyes glow red while wearing this helmet, and the helmet will show you all of the weak points and best places to be while in combat.

Breastplate: Armor of Runes: Gives all the runes (Absorption, Skill Leveling Speed, Speed, Strength, Durability, Magic, Health Regeneration, Mana Regeneration, Stamina Regeneration Resistance, Defence, and Shield) to the Breastplate.

Gauntlets: Infinite Strength: You have a bottomless well of strength while wearing these gauntlets, and that strength can be used in different ways. Because of your endless pursuit of power you can go beyond your limits for a brief moment. 1: You can use the base amount of strength given passively (10%). This doesn’t put any strain on the user and boosts your strength by 2x. 2: You can draw on 50% of the gauntlet's strength. This puts minor strain on the user's body and boosts your strength by 10x. 3: You can draw on 100% of the gauntlet’s strength. This puts a major strain on the user's body and boosts your strength by 20x. 4: You can break your limits and draw upon 200% of the gauntlet's strength. This puts immense strain on the user’s body and boosts your strength by 40x.

Greaves: Reaper’s Mist: These greaves emit mist darker than the deepest black, and the mist eats away at any enemy within it and lingers indefinitely. This effect can only be reversed by the user ending it, by killing the user, or by breaking the greaves. The mist can also add debuffs by pushing mana into the greaves. The debuffs can be ANY debuff and are not related to the skill (Ultimate Debuffs). Debuffs from the mist are 200% more effective if the user is not moving.

Boots: Infinite Speed: You have a deep connection to the concept of speed, and you draw upon it with every step you take. Because of your avarice for speed, your first step after being immobile, (not moving for more than 3 seconds) increases your speed by 200%. Each step afterwards increases your speed by 20%. There is no maximum speed, but once you reach 10,000% your body will take slight damage from going too fast. The next milestone is 100,000%, at which point your body will start to take increasing amounts of damage. At 1,000,000% every step will do large amounts of damage, to the point where every step has the potential to kill you. This effect will lessen with his endurance, but it will never be completely gone. If you stop after reaching one of the milestones, all your speed will be converted into healing and you will fall asleep for 1 minute and Battle Trance will be deactivated, but you become 99% resistant to physical and magical damage.

When all 5 pieces are in effect you take 50% less damage from ALL sources. Not moving while taking damage increases this effect to 90% less damage.

When at least 4 pieces are in effect, debuffs you inflict have a 40% chance of being a higher tier of debuffs (Common -> Uncommon -> Rare -> Very Rare -> Epic), there is a 20% chance of jumping two debuff tiers.

When at least 3 pieces are in effect, heath, mana, and stamina are regenerated four times as fast. If not moving, the effect is doubled.

When at least 2 pieces are in effect, your soulbound items are 200% more effective. All skills are 500% more powerful when wearing a soulbound item. (Does not stack)

When at least 1 piece is in effect, Skill: Battle Trance (SSS) activates. When Battle Trance is in effect, there is a 10% chance to fall asleep and continue fighting as you are sleeping. While fighting and sleeping at the same time, you gain double the exp in all actions.

When no pieces are in effect, the skill (Avatar of Slow Profitable Death) fails and cannot be reactivated for 12 hours per armor piece.

Atlas hurriedly skimmed over the new updates, noting a couple changes in percentage here and there. This would drastically improve his leveling speed, but wasn’t too helpful in the current situation.

Atlas looked up at the clone and saw it beginning to gather an immense amount of mana.

Atlas’s eyes narrowed as he teleported towards it.
