When eleven year old, Grace Wren moves to New York to live with her abusive aunt, Nina. There she meets Mr. Philip, an eighty-year-old man who tells amazing stories to her. He becomes her friend. Through out the book Grace gets closer to Philips but when her aunt finds out, she is no longer to see the old man and Grace returns to the sadness corner of her life.
