The girls all jumped at the sound in fright.
“It’s okay,” said Carla, as they walked toward the kitchen. “We’re the only ghosts in this house.”
“No we aren’t,” cried Callie, as they all saw what was in the kitchen. “Casper’s in the house too!”
Casper had his head in the pantry and was nuzzling a basket that he had knocked to the floor.
“He’s found the carrots,” said Cassie.
“Casper likes carrots,” said Crissie. “Benjamin always gave him one after a ride.”
“Look! He’s actually eating them!” said Carla. “Does that mean we can eat things after all?”

“I don’t know,” said Crissie, “I never tried.”
Callie grinned and looked at the fridge.
Callie tried to pull the fridge door open but her hand just went straight through it. She scowled, but a moment later a mischievous grin appeared on her face. Instead of opening the fridge door, she walked right through it.
“Callie, don’t you go eating all their food now,” Carla said.
A giggling sound could be heard coming from inside the fridge. “There’s cake in here,” Callie said.
Byron and Benjamin poked their heads around the edge of the kitchen doorway. They both looked scared.
Their mum showed up a moment later and saw the knocked over carrot basket and the two boys. “What have you boys been doing? Can’t you play nicely?”
“We didn’t do it,” said Byron.
Benjamin didn’t reply at all. He was looking down at the half-eaten carrots on the floor with a curious look on his face. “Casper always liked carrots,” he said.
His mum’s expression softened. “Why don’t you boys go outside and get some fresh air while I clean this up,” she said.
The two boys nodded and did as she asked.
The girls followed them outside, and Casper came too.
“I have another idea,” said Crissie. “But we’re going to need Casper’s help.”
