Lunacy 21: Gavin III

If skills could get an ‘employee of the month’ award, [Blood and Thunder] would get it. It’s keeping me awake.

My tails would be able to keep me alive in case I fell asleep but…

I [Flushed] [Charmed] fisherman to the ship, [Dragonvein: Waterspouted] them on deck and froze their pants to the ship.

Don’t tell me that I have to fight Giana after this fight against the salmon.

It doesn’t help that I’ve used a lot of deception and am still using it currently, it will just set off a vixen’s ‘toxic alarm’ and cause her charm magic to spike. Messing with illusions might not have been a great idea after all.

There is reason to believe that she is still somewhat in control, as she hasn't dived down yet and come at me herself.

The last wave of fishermen came at me. These were the least [Charmed] out of all. Most were women and the captain was also between them. They also got [Flushed] back and frozen to the deck.

How do I defuse this situation? Will this problem go away if I ignore it?

Giana calmed down 10 minutes after my Elgards eyes returned.

She helped me on deck but tried to keep her distance as she was still radiating charm magic.

I’m sorry, I had no idea it would have this effect on you…

“Don’t be sorry, I enjoyed every moment of it. I need… more time to get this under control.”

How do we unzombify them without slapping the charm out of them?

  “Not possible, sorry.”

Giana tied herself to the mast to control her urges, and I blasted the fishermen with Dragonvein.

  Hey wake up!

I slapped the captain over the face to break him out of this love struck stupor.

“Huh? What? Where is my queen?”

  Zanyr has an emperor!

I continued slapping the captain, as he was still [Charmed].

“Hey that hurts! Backoff!” The captain pushed me away and rubbed his face. “Ugh, this headache, what happened?”

Do you want a pleasant lie or the ugly truth?

  “Uhh, ugly truth.”

You got hit by friendly fire, vixens get dangerous to be around when they get… excited, more ugly truth, it’s your responsibility now to wake up the rest. I need some sleep. I need you to make sure Giana calms down before you untie her from the mast.

“You tied her to the mast?”

  No, she did that herself.

The captain nodded and started slapping his crew first.

I shattered the sturdy [Illusionary Dagger] illusion I had placed on myself and all the salmon that ‘vaporized’ got sent into my dimensional pocket, whatever charm might have stuck to me also got removed.

I found a comfortable corner and rolled myself up in my extra fluffy tails and disguised myself as a barrel.

Its noisy outside. Are they partying? Without me?! I stormed on deck but to my relief, they weren't partying, they were only fighting a Kraken. I thought that I kicked this possibility out of reality, or did I manifest it because of that?

I was specific in kicking a kraken encounter out and not other sea monsters. It could have been any sea monster, but it’s a Kraken. But this isn’t a spirit, so the fishermen can handle this. I would pretend to be nice to ask them how they’re doing and then mind my own business.

  Yoo! What is the status?

“What the? Oh, Silver Torrent! Nice timing! As you can see…” We dodged an ink blob. “We’re fighting a Kraken.”

How do you guys keep getting into trouble?

The captain paused for a bit and looked at me dead serious. “You’re joking right?”

So how can I help captain?

“Uhm, can you deal with that Kraken?”

The Kraken was quite ugly, and its breath stank, but these adventurers were getting close to defeating it.

I don’t want to steal your kill, though, but I’ll help out when his mom pops up.

“Wait? His mom? What do you mean?” The captain asked wide-eyed.

Shouldn’t a captain be familiar with Kraken and the like?

Look how small he is! He is obviously quite young.

The captain looked over. “This thing is easily 30 meters!”

Yes, thank you for proving my point, his mom probably nears 80-120 meters.

“... Can you help us, please?”

  Sure.

I didn’t want to steal the kill of the fishermen, though. I pulled Nilah out of my dimensional pocket and readied for a quickdraw.

Don’t cut the fishermen and don’t kill the Kraken, should be easy right?

I was about to unleash my skill when a tail grabbed me.

  Uh oh.

“I’ve been looking all over for you; you’re not hurt, right? I couldn’t tell if you did something reckless!” Giana said in a panic as she gave me a checkup.

  You’re back to normal?

“Yes! Thank you for putting up with me! I have everything under… control…” She said as she stared at my tails. “Uhm… your tails got fluffier…”

  I know….

Awkward silence fell. A loud interrupted the silence as battle noises were playing off in the background followed by cheering. The fishermen beat the Kraken without mythical help.

“Oh, the god has awoken!” The annoying assassin yelled as he ran at us and bowed.

Hey! Who let this lunatic loose! Shouldn’t he be tied up?!

“Wel… he was extremely helpful in fighting off the kraken…” one of the crewmates said.

But he’s an assassin, infiltrating is his forte…

“So, when are you going to start a religion where we can worship you?” Assassin asked.

A cultist assassin… when you think you’ve seen it all. No worshiping me or Giana!

The assassin gave Giana a hopeful look.

“I agree with Agnis, no worshiping us.”

The assassin hung his head and shoulders and walked away dejectedly. I then noticed an enormous pile of fish that was kept fresh with ice.

No wonder you got attacked by a Kraken, that pile of fish screams ‘Hey Kraken! Here is some free food!’ I would have expected more creatures to get attracted to this, though...

“Well, where are we supposed to store it then?!”

In a dimensional pock… oh, hehe good point.

I stored all the fish in my dimensional pocket and hoped they would forget that I was holding on to their fish.

There, no more sea monsters, should be attracted to here now.

“I appreciate the help, but we have no means of returning home, our ship is unable to bring us home” The captain said as he tried to light his damp pipe but failed. I helped him out with a [Spark] which was a mistake as his pipe produced a lot of smoke which had me gasping for air.

Ugh, [Poison Fog]? Do all pipes do that? And what does the protocol, or however it’s called, say about situations like these?

“Pretty close to ‘give up and die’ or try to find a nearby island.”

  Jeez…

I took some paper out of my dimensional pocket and drew a magic circle on it.

Here, when we get back, study this magic circle. Draw a circle like this on the town square or something so that whenever you get stuck on sea you can teleport to the set point. Teach it to the other fishermen afterward.

  ”Wait really?”

Yeh, this teleport I’m going to set up is a one-time only next time I want compensation for it. Gather everyone here.

I took out my wires and formed a magic circle. The captain was looking at the paper I gave him and the circle I drew.

“Your circle is a bit different.”

Yeah, coz I don't have a set point, I have to manually locate the city, it's a circle-to-circle teleport, and that's why I have to change mine a bit.

The fishermen were sitting to the side and watching me make the circle. “Man, it has been ages since I saw someone manually create magic circles.”

  ”I know right!”

They kept talking about magic circles and then about what ‘miracles’ they saw me perform.

The captain seemed as if he wanted to say something.

  ‘Sup?

“It’s about your identity… we have no intention of spreading it, but it will be hard to keep mouths hushed about this…”

Oh that, it would come out sooner or later, nothing I can do about it. Anyone that acts maliciously will end up like those salmon, so it’s not as if I really care, the only problem are people like that assassin that will erect cults and worship Giana or me…

“I see, I never would have expected to encounter a mythical being and if I would, I would have expected it to spell my doom.”

Uhh mythical beings are in general too busy to bother with humans, but they will fuck you up if you mess with them. Right the circle is almost done, please step inside and keep your limbs and tails within the circle at all times.

The fishermen put all their stuff in the circle and Giana got awfully close. I hid my tails, completed the circle, and we got teleported back to the city. The magic automatically forced people away from their destination, so we had no mishaps.

“Whoa we’re really back at the city square!” Everyone was happy to be back home.

The captain and an elderly fisherman approached us. “I know that this wasn't an adventure issued by the Adventurers Association, but do you mind if I report this to them? We don’t have the resources to give you the compensation that you deserve”

Uhh, I don't mind, but we are already happy if we can just eat these salmon at whatever party, you guys had planned to have after we’d catch it.

“Right, we had planned to be away for 3 full days, but we've only been gone for almost a whole day. The party will be in 2 days, I hope you will stay.”

Of course! We didn't go through all that trouble to not eat the salmon! Where can I drop all the seafood we caught off by the way?

“If you have a cart, I can take it away now. I don't want to inconvenience you anymore.”

I took out 111 carts and filled them with fish. “Right, I forgot about the scale of the amount of fish you caught… “He sent a short Teleroad message to someone. “Right, you can leave them here, everything will be taken care of. Also, thank you for helping us out, it must not have been easy”

He nodded to Giana and me and went to guard the carts of fish.

Giana yawned and stretched. “That was quite tiring, mind if I go to sleep, and you carry me to my room? I won’t be able to do any vixen things if I’m asleep.”

Giana rolled up in her tails before I could respond. How considerate of her.

The assassin approached me and gave me 2 well-prepared baked cods. “Here is the offering to you and the goddess.”

I wanted to smack him, but he was forgiven because of the midnight snack which I snatched from him.

What do you want? I will go 9t on your ass if it’s something stupid.

“Do you mind gracing me and my group with your presence?”

I’m not interested in your cult! I want nothing to do…

I paused as I realized something. These people seem to know about 9t, maybe they have clues to find Hourai. It’s very embarrassing, but we’re as close to finding Hourai as the day we left Boshi town many years ago…

I changed my mind, but I’m going to drop Giana off to safety first, and I swear if you guys pull some dumb shit, you're going to end up worse than those spirit salmon! Meet me here in 30 minutes. And remember! No bullshit.

Assassin [Shadow melded] away, and I brought Giana back to the hotel. But first.

  Noelle wake up!

I knocked on her door. I heard rummaging and the door opened a bit later.

“Oh, you’re back already?” She rubbed the sleep out of her eyes. “And in one piece, that is good.”

Can you take care of Giana? I’m sure you have another trap set up somewhere

“Meh, I guess that won't work twice, is she ok?”

  Yeah, just tired.

“She looks a bit different, she has [Transformed] again, what did you do?” Noelle asked with a smile.

Ugh, something stupid… and uhhh, do I have pink on me?

“Unfortunately not, I can have Giana fix that.” She said as she pointed to their room with her thumb.

  No thanks, maybe another time.

“I like that answer, now make sure to sleep.” Noelle yawned and closed the door.

I wanted to sleep too, but I will just hear out what these cultists have to say.
