Chapter 11

It was now the fourth day of being in the maze and Loid and Jack were moving at a nice pace. The navigation has now been almost completely entrusted to Jack as they search for an exit through the maze. Jack could have already escaped the maze by now if he wanted to but there are two reasons why he didn’t.

First, Jack’s stamina and speed exceeded that of a normal human by multiple times, in fact, there is no human on the planet as physically capable as Jack. Meaning that there would be no way for anyone much less than a 9 year old boy to keep with Jack. Secondly, Jack still wanted to find a person who was indebted to him so he could use their ability for later games. Luckily, for him, an opportunity like that was soon approaching.

For the past hour, someone has been going the same pathway as us. It’s unlikely that they're following us with the intent to kill or even know we’re here because they aren’t trying to hide or conceal their presence. And judging by their body weight and shape, they are most definitely a woman. This opportunity is perfect.

Jack and Loid approach a new area unlike anything they have seen previously, causing them to stop in their tracks.

  “Lava?” Loid said confused.

There was a 12 feet lava pool separating the ground into two sides. The only way to get across was the large rocks sticking out from on the left wall that were within jumping distance from each other.

This book was originally published on Royal Road. Check it out there for the real experience.

I guess they want us to use these rocks to make it across even though I could just jump to the other side. But I’ll do it the normal way with Loid instead.

“Hey Loid, I’ll piggyback you while I get to the other side.” Jack said.

“What’s a piggyback?” Loid asked, tilting his head slightly.

Jack crouches down in front of Loid and puts his arms behind his back, with his palms facing up.

“Just climb on my back.” Jack said.

Loid climbed on Jack’s back and put his arms around Jack’s neck. Then, Jack walked over to the left side of the wall and got on the first rock. Slowly, Jack jumped from rock to rock, some shaking because of the weight of two people. On one of the rocks, Jack dug his hand into where the rock connected to the wall without Loid noticing and slightly separated the rock from the wall, causing it to be unsteady. Once they got to the other side, Jack put Loid back down on the ground.

“Loid follow me, someone might be following us.” Jack said, walking through the new exit pathway.

The tunnel had a long walk ahead, but Jack and Loid only went a little bit of the way. Just enough to make it so the person behind them couldn’t see them when she entered the room.

After a few minutes, a woman walked inside the room. She wasn’t terribly fatigued but you could notice some sweat droop from her face, which is normal for a person who had been walking for a while. The woman had beautiful dark, smooth, skin and had long silky black hair. Along with dazzling golden eyes. She looked fairly young, in her early twenties, around Jack’s age.

She looked around the room, analyzing her surroundings to figure out why it looked so different then the previous tunnels or checkpoints.

“Crap, this place sucks.” She muttered when she realized she actually had to make her way across the lava.

The woman made her way across the unstable terrain, carefully making her way from each rock towards the other side. Unfortunately for her though, once she stepped on the rock that Jack tampered with, it broke off and she began to fall.

Good, It’s time for me to go!

Jack dashed towards the woman as she slowly fell down, showing an expression of a mix of fear and surprise on her face. Jack leaped across the lava and swiftly caught the woman, wrapping his hands around her and arriving on the other side.

He placed on the ground slowly and gracefully but while he was he took a moment to actually see the woman’s face up close.

  Woah, she’s really…cute
