Chapter 3: Toy soldiers
Didier was brought out of the hospital as his assigned bodyguard wheeled him out. To his left he saw Jayce in the hospital parking lot. Talking to a coworker next to a car.
He took a deep breath. Making sure to take in as much air as possible. Looking up and feeling the beams of sunlight hitting his face while closing his eyes and clearing his mind.
He was wheeled farther and farther away from the hospital. If he had looked back he wouldn't had seen it anymore. Yet he kept his eyes closed. Just thinking.
Finally he has opened them. He then turned towards the bodyguard.
Didier: Hey… I think I just dropped my keys or something. Can you check for me?
The bodyguard stopped walking for a moment and glanced at the floor.
“Didn't hear anything drop. Don't see anything either.”
Dider: Just look closely! I could have sworn something fell just now.
The bodyguard gave Didier a look of annoyance however he reluctantly did as he asked. Getting down to inspect the floor more thoroughly.
“Doesn't seem like anything-”
Just then Didier swiftly threw the wheelchair down on the pavement and began to sprint towards the hospital he had just been at.
However before he could have made more than 2 steps he felt a strong hand pull the collar of his shirt with enough force to bring him right back to where he started.

“Where are we off too?” He said turning the wheelchair back to Didier.
“Can't run from me, man.”
Didier looked at him right In the eyes with a face of adversity.
“Just get in the chair.”
Didier stared at the chair and slowly sat down.
“I know everything that happened. Let me guess. You wanted to ask Jayce for a job right?”
Didier's voice was quiet and sounded detached.
Didier: It's my only choice. I have nothing else left. No options.
The bodyguard kept on moving. For a while he didn't say anything. Perhaps thinking of the best answer.
“I guess I gotta give you the harsh reality. The truth is that becoming a corruption exterminator is a complicated process. You need to have someone qualified to watch you fight and vouch for you. Right now it's illegal to use your powers so nobody could vouch for you even if they wanted to.”
Didier: … Figured something like that might have been true… I thought it wouldn't hurt to try though.
They continue on their path. Eventually having to stop at a red light. As they waited for the light to turn red they heard a voice.
“Life has been detected in the vicinity… 2 lives…”
It sounded muffled and like It was crackling. Like the voice was coming from an old walkie talkie.
Both Didier and the bodyguard turned to the origin of the noise and saw 4 toy soldiers. All carrying a cardboard box on their backs labeled “army base” written as if a child with poor handwriting were the one to have written it. There was a small hole in the middle of the box.
Didier: What's that…? Is it a toy?
The soldiers marched towards the 2 of them before stopping suddenly.
“Soldier deployed…”
Another toy soldier jumped out of the hole from the box with a small plastic gun in its hand.
“This is probably bad…”
The bodyguard gripped the back of Didier's seat.
Didier: Do you think it's…?
“I'm pretty sure it's a corrupted! We gotta get out of here now!”
The bodyguard began to wheel Didier away frantically. Crossing the street without even looking. Each step his feet slammed against the floor with all his power to get away.
Didier looked back while they were both in the street at the soldiers. It aimed its gun at the bodyguard and fired. The bullet hit the bodyguard's head… but nothing happened.
Didier: What…?
He whipped around to look at the bodyguard.
Didier: You didn't feel that just now!?
“What?!”
Just then the toy soldier turned around and shot a nearby rock. Almost as big as a human hand.
As soon as the bullet touched the rock it went flying towards the bodyguard. Slamming itself against his head and killing him instantly. His head had exploded everywhere. Brain matter and blood got everywhere, including on Didier's face.
Didier watched as the body guard's body fell to the ground. He touched his face with his hands. He took his hands from off his face and looked at the blood as his breath became erratic.
Didier: … No way…
Just then he leapt up from his wheelchair. As if he completely forgot he should have been sitting in it at all and began to sprint. He didn't look back and the toy soldier shot his bullet. Panting like a dog while running.
Before the bullets landed on Didier he stepped into a large puddle. It was as if he was sucked into it. Phasing through the puddle like it was a portal.
Didier: What the-
