Chapter 36: Laughter and Conversation

  Chapter Thirty-Six: Joyful Conversation

When Wang Zhi's words were heard, not only the many doctors in the audience were surprised, but also Zhou Boran, Jiang Yuanhua and Han Zhixin were also shocked. These few people all knew some of Wang Zhi's extraordinary abilities, but to say that he would allow everyone to ask questions without restriction, they all sweated for Wang Zhi. Although Wang Zhi had already declared that he was only a Chinese medicine doctor, this Chinese medicine also has many different systems.

Jiang Yuanghua was somewhat regretful, if he had known that Wang Zhi was so ignorant of the depth, he would not have let him go up. Originally, he heard from Zhou Boran that Wang Zhi only had a qualification certificate for a resident doctor, and such a qualification proof made Wang Zhi very inconvenient. Now, Wang Zhi is still in Jianghuai Central Hospital, but if he goes to some other places, he will definitely be subjected to some difficulties. In view of this situation, Jiang Yuanghua thought that Wang Zhi should show his face at this exchange meeting, so that in the future, Wang Zhi would also have a small reputation in Jiang Province. After all, Jiang Yuanghua still had confidence in Wang Zhi's true abilities. Who would have thought that Wang Zhi... This time, it might be embarrassing, and if things go wrong, Wang Zhi's reputation in the medical circle of Jiang Province will be ruined from now on.

Wang Zhikai didn't know what Jiang Yuankui was thinking in his heart, but after finishing speaking, he looked down calmly and waited for everyone's questions.

"Excuse me, Dr. Wang, what are the types of lung diseases and how do you treat them?" The audience was slightly stunned by Wang's words, but quickly reacted and someone immediately started asking questions.

"Hehe," Wang lightly smiled and said:

"The lungs are the canopy of the five organs, with the highest position, and externally combine with the skin and hair; The lungs are delicate organs that cannot tolerate cold and heat. Their qi is in a downward direction as the normal condition, and they are also the organs of clarity and purity, not allowing foreign objects to enter. Both external contraction and internal injury can easily damage the lungs and cause disease. The lungs govern qi and control breathing - therefore, lung diseases often have symptoms of abnormal ascent and descent of qi as the main manifestation. As long as it can be attributed to one of the following categories."

"One, lung qi deficiency, the disease is caused by excessive labor injury, after the illness the original qi has not recovered or prolonged coughing and panting have injured the lung qi; the generation and transformation of qi are insufficient, the main pulse symptoms include a low and timid voice, fatigue and reluctance to speak, a pale complexion with little luster, easily catching colds, aversion to wind and cold, spontaneous sweating, weak coughing, abundant clear and thin phlegm, a pale tongue with a white coating, and a weak pulse..."

"The second is lung yin deficiency, the disease is caused by tuberculosis worms eating lungs, long cough and asthma, qi and blood deficiency; dry heat evil offending lungs, damaging lung yin, symptoms include dry cough with little phlegm, or phlegm with blood, hoarse voice, afternoon cheek redness, tidal fever and night sweats, physical emaciation, tongue red, less moss, pulse fine and rapid etc..."

Wang Zhi talked fluently, his expression relaxed, without any stumbling or deep thinking, almost all of it came out effortlessly.

Wang Zhi finished speaking and smiled at the doctor who asked questions below the stage, asking: "I don't know if this question is understood by fellow doctors. If not, I'll explain it again."

"This, I'm studying Western medicine, don't understand too much, haha." The doctor gave an awkward smile and quickly sat down. It was very obvious that this guy was intentionally being difficult. Seeing Wang Zhi's carefree and cheerful demeanor, he suddenly became flustered.

"Hehe, although traditional Chinese medicine and Western medicine have different approaches, they all boil down to the same thing. The differences are not that big, just in the methods of diagnosis and treatment. In fact, the disease itself is the same. I hope my answer can help resolve your doubts." Wang Zhi said calmly, without getting annoyed by the other person's intentional difficulties, after all, he looked too young, and it was only natural that others wouldn't take him seriously. If he were sitting in a lower position now, he would also feel the same way.

"Ah, Doctor Wang." Another doctor stood up and asked: "Doctor Wang, I've heard that in traditional Chinese medicine, there is a method that doesn't require observing the color or feeling the pulse to diagnose an illness. Instead, it infers internal changes from external manifestations. Is this true? What is this method?"

When the doctor asked this question, everyone was stunned. This guy obviously didn't know where he heard such remarks and actually brought them up at this time. Everyone knows that traditional Chinese medicine emphasizes observation, listening, questioning, and pulse-taking. Now that we don't use observation of color or pulse-taking, we're only left with listening and questioning. But how much can you understand through just listening and questioning? If it's a simple illness, that's fine, but if it's slightly more complicated, it's going to be tough.

"This colleague is indeed knowledgeable, and I, Wang Zhi, admire him. In traditional Chinese medicine, there is indeed such a method, which is not completely unrelated to observation, but also requires the use of one's eyes." Wang Zhi smiled lightly and said: "This method is called 'diagnosis by skin and flesh'. By examining the tightness or looseness, highness or thinness, smoothness or roughness of the skin and flesh, as well as the firmness or weakness of the muscles, one can determine which disease it belongs to. What I say is reliable."

  The doctor nodded.

Wang Zhi continued: "This method is actually also a look, for example, seeing the patient's eye socket depression, there is slight edema, like just waking up and getting out of bed, neck pulse beating, coughing from time to time. If you press the patient's hands and feet with your hand, the pressed place will sink deeply and not rise, this is a symptom of wind-water skin swelling. For example, if the skin is smooth and not rough, and the eyes are shiny, it is a sign of wind disease; if the muscles in the cubit are soft and weak, it means physical fatigue, etc., how can you know without looking? " Wang Zhi smiled and looked at the other person with some playful color in his eyes, this guy must have seen that sentence somewhere and brought it out to make things difficult, he's actually a fool, these are just a kind of look after all.

The doctor felt embarrassed by Wang Zhi's gaze and quickly sat down, lowering his head.

Wang Zhi was too lazy to bother with him and said loudly: "Does anyone else have anything to ask? I hope everyone will ask some nutritious topics this time."

The group of doctors below were all somewhat embarrassed by Wang Zhi's words, and it can be said that most people looked down on Wang Zhi with a difficult attitude. Now that Wang Zhi has answered two questions in a row, although there wasn't much substantial content, but looking at Wang Zhi's attitude and expression, even if the crowd were fools, they would know that he was an expert.

"This Dr. Wang, sorry, because you're too young, so we somewhat looked down on you, please don't blame me, I'm also a TCM doctor, recently when treating patients there have been some issues, originally wanted to ask Professor Jiang's opinion, but Professor Jiang... haha." The doctor smiled slightly, apologetically saying: "Now it seems like I can only ask you."

"Please, as long as I know, I will definitely answer in detail." Wang Zhi said with a light smile, and from the slightly red face of this doctor, Wang Zhi could still see that his opponent was not intentionally being difficult.

"The patient has had headaches for over 10 years, with frequent episodes of severe pain accompanied by nausea and vomiting. Painkillers have been ineffective in relieving the pain, which can last for several days. The attacks are often triggered by overwork, cold weather, or emotional upset. Western medical diagnosis is vascular migraine, but treatment has not been effective.

Recently, due to excessive mental work and severe cold weather, the patient's condition worsened, with symptoms including blurred vision, photophobia, and pain in the forehead and eye sockets. The pain then spread to the top of the head and both sides of the forehead, becoming unbearable and stabbing like a knife. Strong painkillers such as morphine and pethidine were ineffective in relieving the pain.

The patient also experienced chills, fear of wind, frequent nausea and vomiting, and severe suffering. Physical examination revealed a tight pulse, dark red tongue with purple gas at the edges, and a pale, smooth tongue coating. The patient had tenderness to pressure on the head, vertex, and temples, but normal blood pressure and body temperature.

Considering the symptoms and physical signs, the diagnosis is blood stasis with cold congealment. What would you recommend for this patient, Dr. Wang?"

"When it comes to headaches, they can be broadly classified into two categories: external and internal. External headaches are often caused by external factors such as wind, cold, dampness, and heat, which disrupt the flow of qi and blood in the head, leading to pain. These types of headaches typically have a sudden onset, short duration, and are accompanied by exterior symptoms. The treatment for this type of headache usually involves dispelling wind and scattering evil. On the other hand, internal headaches are often caused by internal factors such as emotional disturbances, dietary irregularities, fatigue, and sexual overindulgence, which can lead to liver yang hyperactivity, phlegm-dampness obstruction, blood stasis, qi and blood deficiency, and kidney essence insufficiency. These changes can cause the head to lose its nourishment or be disturbed, leading to headache. The course of this type of headache is often longer, with a slower onset, and is accompanied by dysfunction of the liver, spleen, and kidneys. The treatment for internal headaches should focus on supplementing deficiencies and draining excesses, while also addressing the root cause of the problem. It's essential to avoid treating only the head and instead use medications that guide the flow of qi to the affected area."

King Chi paused for a moment, then continued: "The situation you described should be treated with... 30 grams of Chuanxiong, 15 grams of Danggui, 15 grams of Xixin, 15 grams of Baizhi, 10 grams of Fangfeng, and 3 earthworms ground into a powder and decocted in water. Take two doses, six hours apart, during the day. After taking two doses, the headache will basically stop, and nausea and vomiting will also subside. Reduce the original dosage to one dose per day, and after five days, all symptoms will disappear. Occasionally, there may be insomnia, but otherwise no discomfort, and the tongue and pulse will return to normal. Continue taking the medicine, and in three months, you will fully recover."

"Thank you, Dr. Wang, I really gained a lot from this." The doctor said respectfully, with not even a hint of disdain in his eyes.

Many doctors under the stage saw Wang Zhi's words flowing like a river, not only were the prescriptions spoken out of his mouth, but also the basic condition after treatment was clear at a glance. They all sighed in admiration, and many people whispered to each other. Even Lin Shengtang, who was sitting on the stage, nodded slightly at this time. As an old Chinese medicine master, he could naturally see Wang Zhi's level.

"Is there anyone else who wants to ask a question? If not, I'll step down. There are many seniors waiting in the back." Wang Zhi saw that doctor sit down and calmly looked at the numerous doctors below the stage, then smiled and asked again.
