Petros was patrolling the walls.
He didn’t expect much of anything. It was just another lazy evening here is Ligo Pouthena.
“Hey, you good Petros?”, another guard asked.
“Ah, Andris. Yes, all good. How are you this evening?”
Andris shrugged.
Good as always, he meant.
“Have you heard about the rumours about the slaughterhouse area? We should send someone to investigate that one day, just in case” , Petros acknowledged.
“Ah, no need. I went there already. It is just some exotic animals from Vastitas and Praelia. They can get quite loud”
The story has been taken without consent; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
“Why are they here of all places?”
“Special food and special entertainment for when the army comes around to collect the draft. Guess that our leaders have a sense of showmanship”
“Strange, strange. Well no matter then”
The two of them resumed their watch, sometimes stopping to play a short dice game when they felt like the boredom was getting overwhelming
The evening was bathed in moonlight, so they knew that they could spot anything that came close.
Suddenly, around halfway the hour of the moon, Petros spotted something.
Through the silver moonlight, he grasped the glint of metal reflecting the radiance of the moon.
“Hold up, I think that I saw something”
“You did”, Andris asked.
“Yes, I am sure I did. Lets get the horn and be ready to sound the alarm if it continues to look suspicious”
“But where are you seeing it?”, Andris asked once more.
“There! In the distance!”, Petros pointed.
“Ah, yes. I think that it is about time.”
“About time? Wha-urgh!”, Petros collapsed, grabbing his throat.
Andris cleaned his bloodied dagger with a cloth
He took out a small ivory idol from his back pocket and kissed it.
“All for our Ivory Lady”
“Alright, time to open the gates.”
Andris made his way down to the gate and heard Andreas’ voice.
“All good on your end, Adreas?”
The other man gave him a thumbs up.
Together they opened the gate to allow for Sodom’s force to come in.
Both of them were given an icon, a badge, to present to any that they met, as being under royal protection and should be treated with respect.
Before he departed his hometown forever, Andris said some final parting words.
“Now they just have to release the demons. I hope that whoever has that job doesn’t get eaten as they come out”
