I sit on my usual seat beside my best friend Naomi in the class. She is already here talking with a group of other students.
She rushes to the desk like a whirlwind right after noticing me. Such a cheerful one.
"Tell me you missed the shower and I'll boost about it", she goes with wide eyes full of anticipation to talk about the last night.
"Unfortunately for you, I didn’t. In fact i even took a detour this morning to see the meteorite up close" I, being a fun bummer, snuff out all her confidence, replacing it with mock resentment "Now you tell me you haven’t seen it yet and don't know its weird secret and I'll boost"
Her expression again changes to Curiosity right after hearing the word secret. She is so easy to read.
"Whaaat!. You went to see it by yourself? I thought we would go together right after ol. And what's with this secret? Tell me about it" she demands in a loud voice that attracts many other ears around us.
I explained to her about the meteorite, and they all seemed pretty excitedabouth the news. Naomi shakes her head rapidly after every line I say.
"So you mean this thing is special. It's way heavier than any other meteorite should be!?" she asks. Wearing a veeery serious detective-like expression.
"Any other 'one metre' meteorite. It's roughly the size of a refrigerator, you know. Not even a standard refrigerator," I try to explain to her so she would understand better. But this bitch dismisses my effort
"Yeah, yeah, I know what one metre looks like. Not everyone is number blind like you"
The veins on my foreheads really show up, "why you wretch" but I control myself.
A boy nearby, listening, walks over to a group of friends and says, "Did you hear? The meteorite has a mysterious secret. It won’t move from the site," his voice filled with a mysterious tone.
Another guy goes, "Why is it Thor's hammer or something?" The group breaks into laughter.
Then a girl in the group shifts the mood into a more serious one, "Guys, I live near that site. And it's true, they are trying all sorts of things but can't make it even move"
Another girl adds in a low voice, like a ghost story session around a campfire, "Yeahh, I heard meteorites are full of energy, so it's probably possessed. Something like ghostly... or spiritually" The whole group nods, and they all start throwing their own ideas into this possession of the rock.
Naomi and I look at each other with awkward silence before bursting into laughter "There's born a new ghost legend," Naomi says.
"For sure. It's gonna be a hot topic now" I add.
We chat for a while before the class starts. Showing each other the videos we took. Naomi shows me her TikTok videos that she made during the shower.
She really is a social butterfly. She even planned for a karaoke session after school today with all of our friends. And then she wants to make more reels with the meteorite itself.
Really. I mean, that's why the meteorite came into this world, No?.
---
By the time we finish karaoke, it's already late afternoon, almost evening.
Naomi still insists on taking a look at the fallen rock. So we bid farewell with most of our friends, and only a few of us decided to go there, including me, Naomi, Sam, Roman, Safi, and others.

Most of us have our own bicycles, except Safi, who is riding behind Naomi. And Roman, who is taking a ride with Sam.
The karaoke building in the market, which is pretty close to school, takes almost 10 minutes to reach Street 3 by bicycle.
We keep talking all the way to the eastbrook. Roman tells us that they were able to break the rock. But what happened next is even more shocking. It seems that they were only able to break the outer layer which is composed of known metals that the earth already knows about. But there is a hardcore inside. And what material that is composed of is unknown. And apparently, this hardcore is the heavy material that won't move. Because right after they broke open the meteorite, they were able to move the broken outer shells pretty easily, except for the core.
We are all full of anticipation now.
"Wow, there are security guards", Safi says, looking at the guards walking around the pit and the camp on the street that they put up.
Sam rolls his eyes
"It’s a mysterious meteorite, of course they will"
Naomi jumps in on safis defence
"I mean, if no one can pull it out, then why even guard it. Cause no one 'is' able to pull it out!" Everyone breaks into laughter. She is kinda right though.
Sam notices the already setting sun. Means, we are getting late. He fixes his glasses
"Alright now, how are we gonna go closer. Any idea?"
A fire department uncle who works with my father notices me and walks toward us.
"What are you doing here kid? In case you are looking for your dad, his shift already ended a long time ago" he tells me.
I take a moment to look at my group, and their faces say it all. They want me to get permission.
"No, actually, we wanted to take a look at that thing", I point at the crater nervously. Won't hurt to try.
He presses his forehead and thinks a bit before answering, "Aaah. Actually, all the researchers will come in full force at night. Maybe an hour later. So you gotta hurry, you know" he winks at me.
Well everyone radiets with joy. We park our bicycles not too far, hang our backpacks on the bicycle and enter the pit for the first time.
It's kind of golden. The colour of the generator-shaped rock.
Naomi is already on it. Handing her phone to roman the cameraman. She is recording reels. Safi chukles watching me roll my eyes on their reel making.
Sam asks the uncle
"Can we touch it? Not like we can pull it right"
He shrugs his shoulder, a cigarette ibetwen his lips and a lighter oin hand
"Many people took the challenge all day here. Go ahead"
Roman over hears the man and hurriedly returns Naomi's phone to her in the middle of the video recording and rushes to try it first.
"Here comes Thor to reclaim his hammer", he declares, making his voice more manly.
But of course, he fails. Seems like this Thor is fake. Naomi also gives it a try but no result.
Of course, we aren't serious about it. We are just having fun and acting like Thor, adding dramatic force to our voice every time someone tries to pull it.
Safi is the fourth to give it a try, when she goes really close to the rock she calls us in a suddenly shifted tone.
"Guys take a look"
There are engravings around the rock.
The uncle notices us inspecting the rock thoughtfully.
"This is the reason the special researchers are coming here in full force and why we are guarding it even though it can't be pulled out" he says while smoking a bit further away from us.
A meteorite from outer space is composed of an unknown, dense material with engravings on its surface.
Now that's strange.
