Movement I: Brave New World

I woke up at 6:00 AM for my shift at the burger spot. My alarm was blaring in my ears, shouting at me to wake up and go to work. I sat up in my bed, my blankets scattered all over. I yawned and turned off the alarm.

I sat there for a moment, opening my phone to check my socials. This is how I found out that Enrique has a morning shift with me. This makes me pumped, as when ever me, Enrique or Oliver have a shift together.

Today is going to be a great day. I thought to myself as I got out of bed and straight into the shower. I prefer my shower at a warm temp, but not too hot. After the shower I checked myself out in the mirror. My hair is shaggy, and I have a goatee, I am also a bit chubby. To the average female eye, I was ugly.

I tap the mirror 3 times, to remember a forgotten event, then I brushed my teeth. After I spat out the toothpaste I turned around to wipe my face on a towel. While my face was deep in this towel, I hear a strange jingle. Something out of an ad.

I turn back around to the mirror, where I was presented with a floating big red button.

I inspected the device for a moment, before remembering something a wise man once stated, “I have a policy of pushing all big red buttons.” This deeply inspired me.

The jingle played once more. I chuckled as I pushed the big red button. An extended version of the jingle played throughout the room and the light of the bathroom began to shine brighter, and brighter. Until the entire room was filled with this light.

The light was so strong, I began to feel dizzy. I tried to grab at the counter to make myself stable, but, there was no counter and I just fell. The fall knocked me out. As I fell onto the ground, I didn’t feel the tile of my bathroom.

But what I felt was something wet and itchy. It was cold and it smelt like earth. It felt like I had fallen onto some grass. It was comfy enough to where I simply fell asleep. What feels like a few hours later, I wake up in a bed. My head hurts, but everything seems to be in place.

I open my eyes. The room is lit by sunlight, which hurt my head. So I closed my eyes and I felt up my own body.

  Chest: Check

  Legs: Check

  Balls: Intact (Operational Status: Unknown.)

  Face: Still here

It seemed like everything was still in place. I then rubbed my eyes before opening them to see where I am. There is a curtain around the bed I was laying in, and a window right behind the bed. As I fully came too, I hear voices on the other side of the curtain.

“Is the patient stable?” asked a soft, yet deep male voice.

“Indeed he is, doctor. He should be awake with in the hour.” a fairly raspy sounding female replied.

“Alright, keep me updated. I was told the other transported is wake in the other room.” the male voice told the female.

“I’ll be heading over to the other room, now. Do take care of him.” the man finished.

I hear a door open then heavy footsteps leave the room before closing the door. A figure approached the curtain. I quickly laid back into the bed, trying to pretend I had just woken up.

The figure peeled back the curtain. The shape of the person was human like. But something seemed off. The figure noticed I am awake and walks up next to me.

“You are finally awake…” the lady began to speak. I now had a good look at this persons face. It was a woman with ginger hair. I looked down and saw she was in a tight-fitting nurse’s outfit. She looked me over, “Just a kid?” she asked herself.

I looked up into her golden eyes, “Just a kid? Where am I? And who are you?” I questioned

“No time to explain twerp. I’m gonna break you guys out of here before the doctor comes back.” the lady said as she grabbed me by my hand and yanked me up. “Get moving. Down the hall there is a window you will jump out of. You will fall onto my wagon. Do wait for me and the other transported.”

The lady quickly explained before opening the door and dragging me out. She then pushed me to the left to start going down the hall. I felt rushed, but I still followed her orders, as I had no clue what was going on.

She quickly turned the other way and ran down to the other end. I followed what she told me to do, making my way to the window. I opened the window, and as I did, so I hear yelling, and I look behind me to see the nurse and a masked, shirtless man being dragged by her, “GET THE FUCK OUT THE WINDOW! THEY ARE CHASING US!” the lady shouted at me.

Who is ‘They’? What the hell is going on? I thought to myself before looking back and seeing the nurse rushing towards me with the intent to push me out.

So I quickly did as she said and dove out the window, falling onto a wagon of hay. The two followed me. They both landed safely onto the hay. The lady quickly got up and took the reins of the horses, speeding off away from the building.

I sat up alongside the masked man. The man was only in shorts besides his mask. “I CAN’T SEE SHIT!” said the man. His voice sounded familiar. The voice sounded slightly ethnic and deep in tone.

“Keep it on kid, until we are out of the city. I don’t want people to see your full face. And for the other one, you better keep your head down for the same reason.” said the woman as she controlled the horses

I didn’t want to listen to her, so I stuck my head up, “Who are you?!” I questioned the woman, “Shut up, I said to keep your head down.” the woman said as she chucked her nurse’s cap at me.

The cap caught my face, blinding me and making me fall back into the wagon. I removed the cap from my face. I saw old building rush past us as we make our way out of the city. They look straight out of a fantasy book.

Then I hear horses rushing towards the back of the wagon. “DAMN IT!” shouted the woman. I look to the front where the woman sat with the reins. She is looking back towards the horses that are chasing us, and she pointed at them with her left hand.

The finger that was pointing at the horses shot out a fireball at the men on the horses, taking a few out. She shot a few more, dispersing them.

“What the hell was that?” I questioned to myself.

We kept dodging and weaving in the traffic, making our way towards the main gate, where four guards stood waiting for us. The nurse quickly thought on her feet and shot explosive fireballs towards the group, blowing a path out of the city. Once we got out of the city and into a forest. After the noises of the city were far gone, the nurse told us to keep quiet, as there may be people around that can hear us.

After a while the wagon stopped and the lady hopped out, “You can stand up and remove the mask now.” said the woman.

I stood up on the hay while the man in the mask took off his mask. “What the hell is wrong with you?” the man yelled at the woman. I looked down at him and I studied his face for a moment. His hair was long and curly, his face was chubby but somewhat defined. His skin was clear and brown. I knew this face all too well.

  “Enrique?” I asked.

“Uh, that's my name.” the man replied before looking up to me, “Shrugs?” he asked.

I nearly fell back into the wagon, “What the fuck?” I shouted by instinct. Enrique stood up and looked over me.

“What the fuck are we doing here? I was just getting ready for our shift. But then everything went white for me and I passed out. Then I woke up in a bed with a weird looking man watching me.” explained Enrique.

“Same thing happened to me, but I pushed a button before I passed out.” I replied.

Enrique looked at me with anger, “Do you mean we are here because you pushed a button?”. After finishing the thought, he shot his hands through his pockets searching for an item. After a second of searching he looked at me “My pen is missing.”

He sobbed quietly before the lady walked up to the tailgate of the wagon, “Come on, we have a path to hike. You guys can talk on the way.” the lady said, throwing a bag towards me and Enrique.

“Why would we follow you?” I asked the nurse.

“Because I just save you from a lifetime to service.” the nurse replied, turning away and starting the hike. I stopped talking and followed her, assuming she would give me the time to ask the questions on the way to where ever we are going.

Enrique open the bag, finding his clothes and the pen. He quickly put a shirt on and put the bag over his shoulder before standing up and hopping out the wagon, following me and the nurse walking away.

If you spot this narrative on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.

We both had no shoes and the ground was painful and rocky. “Why are we here? And who are you?” I asked the lady as we began to hike the path next to the wagon.

“Well, you pushed the button, didn’t you?” asked the woman.

I nodded. “Then that is why you are here.” we kept walking through the forest’s path. “You are in the land of Araki. From what I know, you people are transported, and that makes you guys special.”

“Only thing special about us is our education.” remarked Enrique.

She ignored the remark, then began to explain, “This world is what your people would call a fantasy world. Where magic is real and so are monsters. You guys were both found together by Araki State soldiers who saw the light you guys produced. That lead to you guys having a 1-week-long stay in that hospital we just escaped.”

“Why would you take us?” asked Enrique. “Well, there are at the very least three of you who were transported here. One is to become a legendary hero.” she sighed, “Or, so I think. It’s been a while since I read up on transported. But the reason I took is that I couldn’t let you guys inducted into the Araki military.”

“Why not?” I asked. “Well you see, the Araki government is currently led my a dictator that aims to overcome world peace, and having a legendary hero on his side would further his goals.” the lady explained.

Enrique stopped, “Who are you to decide that for us?” he asked.

The lady stopped and turned to the both of us, “My name is Leah, and I wanted to stick it to the man”

“Bullshit.” Enrique said, “If one of us were heros, why were me and shrugs transported here? Of all people, there should have been a better option when it came to humans.”

“I don’t know. I didn’t choose you.” Leah said blankly before starting the hike again.

Enrique sobbed a bit before he decided to shut up. As walked he took out the pen and attempted to use it. He wrapped his lips around it, pushing his long curly hair out of his way. He sucked from, trying his hardest to get a hit, but, allas, the pen is broken and resin had leaked out on the way here.

“This sucks.” he shouted as he smashed the pen into the ground. “Honestly, I think this could be an upgrade from home. I mean if she is right about this being a fantasy world, then I bet you there is magic we can learn that can get you high.” I stated my mind.

“Right, and in fantasy there are bad elf bitches as well.” Enrique stated. We kept walking, watching the lady in front of us, when I finally noticed why she wore the nurse’s cap. On top of her head, there sat two fox like ears.

I tapped on Enrique’s shoulder trying to get him to notice what I had just noticed, but he was too busy thinking about elf women to pay attention to me.

“Excuse me, Leah, but why do you have ears?” I spoke up.

“Because I am a Demi-human. Duh.” Leah said blankly.

Enrique slowly turned his head towards me and whispered, “As I said, bad fantasy bitches.” he grinned.

“I heard you boy.” Leah said with a slightly angered tone.

Enrique went quiet, and remain so until we reached a parting in the forest. By that time the sun was about to set, so the parting was engulfed in an orangish hue from the sun. In the middle of the parting sat a cottage.

“This is where you guys will be staying for a while. At least until I figure out what I am going to do with you guys.” Explained Leah as she approached the cottage.

Leah makes it to the door, and before she opens it she pauses, “Before I open the door, you guys should know about Frank.”

“Who’s Frank?” I asked as Leah opens the door.

The room was dark, we couldn’t see past the doorway. We saw red eyes in the darkness, and Enrique and I stumbled back. Then out leaped a monster, latching onto Enrique. He screamed a high pitches scream “GET THIS THING OFF ME!”

I quickly made my way to Enrique, preparing to kick the beast off of him, but Leah stopped me before. “Calm down twerp, it’s just Frank.” She said as she went over and helped Enrique up, Frank sat sadly behind Enrique.

I got a good look at the beasts, and realized it was a dog sized lizard, “Are you going to explain what ‘Frank’ is?” I asked Leah.

“He’s just a very petite gold dragon.” Leah said blankly. “Just a dragon?” I repeated back to her.

Enrique sat up and brushed himself off, “Can you control you damn dog?” he shouted at Leah.

“He isn’t a dog, kid. And you are going to need to get used to it since you will be living here until further notice.” Leah spat out at Enrique.

“I am NOT living here. The place is dump and the residents are crazy.” he shouted back.

“Twerp, you do not know the situation you are in, clearly.” Leah responded calmly, relaxing her shoulders a bit.

“Then explain our situation! Everything here is mental. First we get teleported into some hospital, where I was touched and poked by several doctors, then you broke in and shot fireballs all over the place. After that you PUSHED me out a fucking window where a wagon full of hay was waiting. Then we were chased by guards for like 30 minutes. After that you made us hike miles, MILES, to this shitty cabin in the woods with a fuck ass dragon that nearly ate me. This sucks ass, and I just want to go back to my normal life.” Enrique explodes into a full rant.

“Now you expect us, US! To live here and keep lying low until you figure out what to do with us. How did you not plan what to do with us before stealing us away from the hospital? Are you fucking stupid?” he kept going, pointing at me.

“She’s not stupid, lady Leah is a very kind lady who takes good care of me.” says a shy sounding voice behind Enrique.

Enrique looks behind him, and see a short, angered, petite boy with short gold hair and teary golden eyes. “Lady Leah is a wonderful person!” the boy attempted to defend Leah.

Enrique points at the boy, “Who the fuck are you?”

“I’m Grimaldus Franklyn-” the boy began to speak, but Leah cut him off, “Kid, they know you as Frank.”

Enrique, still pointing at the boy, slowly turns his head to look at Leah, “That don’t look like a dragon to me.”

Leah walks up to Enrique and slaps his hand down, “Didn’t your mother teach you that pointing was rude?” she questioned.

While this was all happened, I was simply watching from the sidelines, trying to figure out what is going on. So many things have been thrown at me in the past 3 hours.

The golden haired boy stood up, “I didn’t nearly kill you, I was just greeting you!” he told Enrique, pushing through tears that are now streaming.

“I do not care kid.” Enrique coldly said to the boy.

“I’M NOT A KID, I AM A GROWN UP! A GROWN UP NAMED FRANK!” the boy defended himself, his tears falling to the dirt.

“Whatever, kid.” Enrique replied. Frank glared at Enrique, before getting a motherly look from Leah, calming him down.

I finally spoke up, “Leah, Enrique had a good point in his outburst. Why didn’t you plan for us before taking us from the hospital?”

Leah looked over at the setting sun and used her fingers to tell the time, “That’s fair question. I’ll tell you both all about it after you guys get inside.” she said sternly.

“Why do we need to go inside?” asked Enrique while he was in the middle of bullying poor, poor Frank.

“We are in the middle of the woods, there are monsters here that only the house can protect you from.” Leah quickly explained before walking into the house.

I sighed and followed her. While Enrique was about to argue with her, Frank tapped him on the shoulder and whispered something to him that made him go into the house.

The home was pitch black, but Leah snapped her fingers and all the candles lit up the home. The first room in the home was the living room. A room full of knick-knacks and books. The furniture looks somehow modern compared to everything else we’ve seen so far. It was also very dusty.

The smell of old books and herbs laid thick throughout the home. “It actually smells nice in here.” Enrique commented, “Like your grandma’s house.” I expanded on his comment.

“I know, I was the one who came up with the idea of hanging herbs around the house!” Frank said with energy.

“Never mind, I think it smells like shit in here and I hate it even more.” Enrique quickly replied. This made Frank sad.

Leah plopped down into the couch and sighed, “Alright twerps, come sit, and I’ll explain everything.”

Enrique and I found seats with haste.
