After Elle extinguishes the small forest fire, the gang gather.
“Okay. Now, how exactly are we supposed to get out of here?” Chris asks. “Every other room and hallway in this pce is wired to shut down our powers.”
No one speaks for a few moments. Everyone must be as stumped as Chris.
“Let’s check out super kid’s room.” Jerry says. Everyone gives him a weird look. “Seriously. Maybe the Director keeps the power thing on in his room.”
“Yeah, right. Would you want Tetra able to use his powers freely?” Elle tells him.
“Maybe he has a point. Maybe, the Director lets him have a little power. So that he can py a little.” Larry walks over to Tetra. “I would think that, if he didn’t have something to py with, he’d go nuts.”
That made sense in a weird way.
“Let’s go.”
The eight of them walk over and open Tetra’s door, a short hallway extends out with a door at the end. Chris enters and feels no decrease in power. They check the door, it’s unlocked.
“Get ready to hurt some guards.” Larry whispers with his hand on the button to open the door.
Chris readies an air bst, the others ready their own attacks, as Larry pushes the button. The door slides open. Behind is what looks like a child’s pyroom. A child of about half his age.
“What the hell? Just how old is Tetra?” Ariel asks.
“Physically, I’d say about eight or nine. But this stuff is for…toddlers.” Simon says.
“This is seriously mess up right here.” Jerry says.
Elle scolds him.
Chris checks his power, still there. “Can we go?” Chris finally asks.
The rest agree and they go to the door in the other side of the room. Outside in the hallway they run to the right, the only way to go. It winds around and splits off in two directions. One way to the Director’s office and the other way to the bs. They hit the bs and are stopped by gun fire.
Everyone ducks down and behind the big tubes they were once in. Bullets ricochet off the surrounding metal, shattering the gss of the tubes. Elle holds on to Chris tight. He can feel her shaking. She whimpers that she just wants to go home. Chris remembers something from a few days ago.
“Dad! We need to pull everything out of the air but the oxygen” Chris yells over the gun fire.
“What?!” Larry asks, yelling too.
“We surround the guards with pure oxygen for a moment, then Jackson ignites it. We did it before.”
Larry shrugs then starts. Chris helps. Within a few moments Chris senses nothing but oxygen surrounding the guards.
“Jackson!” Chris yells.
Jackson concentrates on the pure oxygen and sparks his power. The resulting fireball explodes out more than what they figured. Chris quickly covers Elle with his body. He cowers down himself. The heat from the bze overwhelming them. All he can hear is screaming and his father yelling something at Jackson. But doesn’t st as their breath is taken from them just as quick. The ck of oxygen, seeming ironic as he passes out.
When Chris comes too he expects to be restrained again. But he wakes up next to Elle, in the b with the tubes. The smell of burnt clothes and hair fills his nose. He checks his own hair just in case, still there.
“Chris?” The sound of his dad bringing relief. “You okay?”
“Yeah. I think so.” Chris sits up and pats himself down, making sure everything’s not charred. Elle stirs beside him. Jerry next to her.
“That’s it,” Jerry says, “Jackson is not allowed to run the barbecue grill from now on.”
“Is everyone okay?” Ariel and Melissa collectively ask.
“C-Chris?” Elle calls quietly.
Chris picks her up to rest in his arms. “I’m here, Elle. You, okay?”
She rubs her head. “Yeah. I think so.” She sits up then scrunches her face. “Eww. What smells?”
“Burnt guards.” Chris responds.
Chris looks and sees everyone coming around and getting to their feet. Chris helps Elle to her feet. The whole b is smoking and hissing. The guards are out cold, and smoldering.
“How are we not crispy critters too?” Jerry asks.
“Larry and Jackson were able to hold back the fmes till they subsided.” Simon tells them.
Elle perks up. “Chris! Let's show our dad’s that computer room below the generator room.”
“Yeah, follow us guys.”
“Okay, but make it quick.”
Chris and Elle run to the generator room, their families right behind them. They enter the generator room and their dad’s 'aww' in amazement.
“This isn’t even the best part.” Chris says as he and Elle open up the trap door. “You two head down, we’ll keep watch.”
Larry and Simon take turns heading down the dder. Chris can hear them ‘ooo’ and ‘ahh’.
The halls outside still smell of the burnt b and guards. But at least they’re empty and quiet.
“When we get to Disneynd? What should we do first?” Jerry asks.
“Well, we’re not going on the Small World ride that you like so much.” Jackson says elbowing him.
“Shut up, dude. That’s your ride.”
Chris and Elle bust up ughing.
With no guards coming to shoot at them some more. The gang were getting a little anxious. What was taking them so long. A while ter, their parents come out with a couple stacks of disks each. So that’s what they were doing.
“We figured that since Axus was so kind to give someone like the Director his data, as in the bad guys, his data, that he wouldn’t mind if we put it to good use.” Larry says with a smirk.
“Time to get Seth and get the hell out of here.” Simon tells them.
Finally, Chris thinks.
“Disneyworld, here we come.” Jerry announces.
They make their way, quickly, to the medical facility and prep Seth for travel. “Thought you guys were leaving.” Seth says, sounding better.
“We did. But we just loved it so much down here we came back.” Simon tells him as they move him to a gurney.
Seth ughs as best he can. “You’ll forgive me if…ow, I don’t share your sentiment.”
“Plus, you have to teach us how to go ninja style.” Jerry adds.
“Jerry?” Elle says spping him on the back of the head.
They wheel Seth out and to the lift. Larry pushes the button to go up. But nothing happens.
“Damn it. Not now.” He says pushing the button a couple more times.
Then the whole complex begins to rumble. Some of the lights flicker as the rumbling increases.
“This can’t be good.” Chris says.
Chris and his dad return to the hallway outside the storage room. Down the hall the lights flicker off. They hear a crash and gss breaking. The smell of burning flesh hits them. Making them hold their noses and gag. Smoke soon fills the hall. It had to be Tetra. He was loose and pissed. Throwing a temper tantrum most likely.
“Come on guys!” Melissa yells out for them.
“Get the elevator going then we’ll be there!” Chris’ dad yells back. “We’ll have to old him off till they get that thing running again.”
Down the hall, through the smoke they see a figure turn the corner. The flickering lights silhouetting the short frame. Some of the smoke clears, it’s Tetra all right. And he’s dragging a body with him. Tetra turns his head to them. His eyes wild. His breathing choppy, probably out of anger and confusion. It was like something out of a horror movie. Chris wants to go, now.
Tetra starts walking to them, dragging his charred body. The gun attached to the wrist indicating it was a guard. He keeps up his slow pace toward them. His eyes and body twitching. He was losing it. If he ever had it to begin with.
“Stop!” A voice cries out from behind Tetra.
Not again. The Director stumbles along the wall, coughing from the smoke. He holds his side and uses the wall for support. Tetra stops and turns, dropping the body of the guard.
Larry gets in front of everyone else. “We are leaving. I’ve shut off your inhibitor for good. And I have evidence of everything you’ve been doing down here. Not to mention, your computer won’t be running very well anymore.”
“Doesn’t matter. I always use backups. But they’re not here.” The Director moves forward more. “Tetra. Maximum level. Destroy them all.”
For a moment, all is silent. Then the whole facility shakes, and Tetra grabs his head like he’s in pain. He screams and turns in their direction.
“Shit!” Larry forms a quick air ball and unches it at Tetra. But Tetra catches it.
The ball increases in size and is unched back. Chris’ dad takes the grunt of it and is knocked into Chris and bsted into the doorway of the storage room.
“Guys. Raw element. We can bst him with that.” Jackson says quickly as him and his siblings run up.
“But we never got it to work.” Elle says.
“What else do we got to lose.” Chris says and stands up. “But let's focus it away from us.” Chris has them all stand side by side.
Tetra looks at them, confused.
“Tetra, destroy them! Now!” The Director yells.
He seems hesitant, which is good for them. He was curious like any child.
Chris starts off with his spark. The others quickly join. Soon they have the same little spark of light they got before. But it starts flickering like it did before, each time sending them flying.
“Kids! Send it out, now!” Simon orders them.
They send it out like he said. Tetra looks at it intrigued. Then it blows up. Tetra is sent flying back into the Director.
“Got it!” Simon says as the lift jumps to life.
Chris and the kids cheer in response. They run to the lift as if raises to the surface.
