Chapter 9: The Source of Conflict

The old man blitzed Greedon, cutting his head off but he used this chance to try cutting at the old man by using his [Sonic Roar], but the old man expected that and moved out of range, keeping his ears safe.

Ningetsu engaged with the female ogre, their weapons clashed with just one motion alone.

Ningetsu recognized her speed was quite formidable for someone her size.

She clashed with her, and it was like she was in a new pose with every attack incoming.Blink and a new action were in process every time.

She tried jumping back but then felt pain in every inch of her body for an unknown reason.

The ogre struck her in the shoulder which was one of the least durable parts of her body, causing even more pain to her.

She stabbed the ogre with her dagger in the shoulder, hoping for some descend damage while she was close.

Her plan was to slowly chip away at her, cut at vital parts of her body, and have her become more desperate over time, allowing her to exploit that and achieve victory.

  [Skill Activated: Great Healing]

The cut on her shoulder heals, which shocks Ningetsu.

She now realized her plan wasn't going to work and needed to devise a new one.

Greedon was fighting a relatively one-sided fight. The old man was still getting in most of the attacks, however, the few cuts he did get on the man using his new dagger weren’t messy at all. They were clean and precise, just what was offered.

The man cut his hand off, but the hand grabbed him and turned into a giant weight ball.

This caused the man to slow down, allowing Greedon to use [Spider Silk] and wrap the ogre up and pull the ogre towards himself.

  Yes! It worked!

The plan he had crafted was made when they were on the roofs. He knew that he couldn’t catch the old ogre, so he devised a plan.

Let it feel like it has the advantage again as he recognizes that he has dodged his [Sonic Roar].

Once he let him gain his confidence, he would attach a piece of himself to the ogre and transform it into a heavy ball.

He wasn't sure it would work but it was all he had and thankfully, the plan worked.

The old ogre recognized the trouble it was in and covered his ears.

Greedon used his [Sonic Roar] and the old man would feel the wave once again.

Alright, perfect. Now aim for the neck!

He swung the dagger in a slashing motion, ready to kill this ogre as fast as possible.

The old man blocked that attack just in time.

HUH!? But I used my skill, how did he parry it? Surely, he didn’t predict the attack.

Greedon noticed that the old ogre’s ears were not bleeding.

Did covering his ears really protect him?

He sees the blade incoming and dodges it just in time, seeing the ogre get a little slower with its attacks.

Taking this chance, he tries to use his {Sonic Roar] again, but the old man stabs him in the mouth, preventing his use.

  “Silence, BOY!”

  [Skill Activated: Card Cutter]

He slices his head in half and cuts off the webs, releasing himself.

Greedon grabs his head piece and places it back.

This is getting so annoying! How can I beat this guy! If only this was as easy as it was in a game.

Ningetsu was at a stalemate with her adversary.

  Relatively keeping pace with her.

She had switched her daggers for a long blade and a shield.

She knew that she was much easier than Dough to damage, but she deduced that this ogre relied too much on her own skill to heal herself that she rushed in recklessly just to get even a little damage in, and her speed allows for her to do so.

Ningetsu knew she needed to finish this ogre in one swoop to end the fight, she just needed the right positions for the both of them and Greedon would be the key.

With Greedon, the fight actually was shifting more in his favor, he managed to learn a little bit about the man’s attack patterns.

The old ogre prefers clean strikes, nothing messy and he had used this to his advantage.

The old man was currently being held back by 3 black balls attached to him.

2 on his legs and one on his left arm.

It was checkmate, the old man was so much easier to deal with than he thought, he just needed his [Sonic Roar] and to get a little creative with how to use his shapeshifting ability.

  [Suck to be you, huh.]

  [Skill Activated: Sonic Roar]

The old man becomes blind once again and Greedon walks behind him, stabbing him in the head.

Finally, guess the old thing wasn't that strong.

  [Growling]

  Damn, I’m hungry.

He absorbs back in the slime parts of the old man and completes himself again. He then covers the old ogre completely, consuming him completely.

[Defeat 4 Monsters Stronger Than You: 1/4]

  [Skill Activated: Greedy Monster]

  [Skill Upgrade: Greedy Monster]

  [2 Arts Obtained!]

[Card Cutter: Allows for a quickdraw to cut through anything]

[LightSpeed: Increases muscle output to move at sound speed]

[Notification: Due to [Old Man Sword Ogre] channeling mana into an Art to create a skill, you will only be rewarded the Art]

  [1 Passive Skill Obtained!]

[Spread Hearing: Allows your sense of hearing to be increased drastically]

Greedon also witnessed the memories of this ogre. He saw the village it lived in, the family it had. Its name was Stilfar and it wasn't evil, just trying to feed its kids.

—Why am I now feeling guilty, he tried to kill me first?

He didn’t want to feel guilty and yet seeing that he was just trying to feed his kids made him think otherwise. Normally, he wouldn’t sympathize with a monster, but along with the memories, he gained the emotions felt in those moments by Stilfar.

—I’ll just help Ningetsu, yeah—I’ll do that.

He also thought about the strange ogre that he saw, if it was even an ogre. She looked much more human, no, completely human.

Her name was also Keke, a weird name it was, and she seemed to be a mage, but Stilfar didn’t know what her skills were, so he would need to travel to the location, and thankfully, Stilfar’s memories gave it to him.

Ningetsu was now in a corner, she never fought someone so unpredictable and reckless. She didn’t fall into any of her plans because of how irrational she was.

She also seemed to strike every weak point she had, causing her so much pain, that it was mostly likely a skill of hers.

  “COME HEEEERE!”

She said, swinging her blade, ready to cut Ningetsu’s arm off.

  [Art Activated: Card Cutter]

  [SLICE]

  “--huh!?”

The female ogre’s hands were both cut off by Greedon using his new dagger.

“T-That’s the old man’s art!? How do you have it?!”

  [Don’t worry about that Pebe.]

Pebe was shocked to realize he knew his name, how could this human know her name, there’s no way.

  [Skill Activated: Great Healing]

She regenerates her hand and now desires to kill this little boy more than ever.

  [Skill Activated: Pain Trigger]

Greedon felt a surge of pain in his head, a massive headache ensuing.

Using this opportunity, Pebe tried hitting him with her weapon, but Ningetsu blocked the attack and stabbed her in the chest, just barely missing her heart.

She pulls the sword out of herself and heals herself again, kicking Ningetsu back.

She tries throwing the sword, but Greedon slashes her throat.

She heals herself again, but Greedon keeps up the pressure.

  [Art Activated: Card Cutter]

Multiple cuts appear all over her body, she heals again but some cuts remain.

Greedon figured out her weakness through Stilfar’s memories. She can heal infinity but if you overwhelm her with too many attacks at once, she won’t be able to regenerate all of them and some will remain even if she tries to use her skill again.

He instilled this thought into Ningetsu and Ningetsu knew what they had to do, just brute force it.

Greedon uses [Black Fog] to blind everyone, then uses his [Heat Vision] to see her heat signature, after that he uses his [Spider Silk] to create thread and uses his [LightSpeed] art to speed himself up, along with him to restrain her.

He uses his [Feeling What You Are Feeling] skill to instill the exact location of Pebe, they then both reach her on opposite sides.

He uses his [Card Cutter] skill to release an endless barrage of strikes while Ningetsu does the same, having used her second skill, [Weapons of Enchantment], a skill she held back on using against Dough because she knew it wouldn’t work and it would just be a waste since she could only use it 3 times a day but with someone like Pebe, it was just fine.

The weapon she enchants is a long sword and adds the following:

  [Durability Increase]

  [Featherweight]

  [Sharpness Increase]

With these 3 buffs, she could now swing her sword so much faster. Not at the same level as [Card Cutter] but was relatively 75% of its speed.

Pebe panicked, now being attacked from both sides, she was trapped. There was no hope of escape. Every time she tried to heal, some scars would remain, and this would end up being her end, as some scars were fatally inflicted, and she couldn’t heal them.

Greedon cut her into multiple pieces, bringing an end to this fight.

[Defeat 4 Monsters Stronger Than You: 2/4]

  [God damn! Finally.]

“You did good, using your skills to maximum efficiency.”

Greedon extended his hand and consumed her entire body.

This surprised her as she didn’t know he wasn't human.

  [2 Skills Obtained!]

[Pain Trigger: Allows the user to trigger all pain receptors in a living thing's body]

[Great Healing: Can heal any poisons and injuries]

  [1 Passive Skill Obtained!]

[Weak Spots: Allows the user to see the weak points of others]

[Pain Trigger] is kind of like paralysis, this could be useful in the future, hopefully, I can remember all these skills.

  “Greedon.”

He turned to Ningetsu, seeing her stick out her hand.

  “Good job.”

  “--Yeah.”

Reaching out, he went for a handshake and then felt the urge to gag.

  “Greedon! Are you okay?”

He was breathing heavily. This was because of Pebe’s memories, the memoirs of a Torturer.

He saw all the bodies she violated, the people whose skin was ripped off their bodies, the organs played with by her, and the unspeakable acts she did to women.

He may have seen ultra-realistic depictions of gore in the game he played but to see such a brutal extent was something he never saw, and it caused him to freeze in place. Not even the serpent’s kill was this brutal as they were just swallowed whole.

Ningetsu had her hand on his back, and she could tell something was wrong, like he saw something so horrifying.

Forget it, forget it, forget it, forget it, forget it.

He kept thinking, wanting that memory to be erased from his mind.

  [Memory Erased]

  [H-huh?]

The memory of that moment was gone. It seemed that he could choose what to keep and what to remove but even then, that doesn’t remove it from his own memory.
