RIFWA 1

I begin my tale in what could be considered a state of confusion, but not quite so for my knowledge is lax but it frets me not (wait dont stop reading, I have no idea how that was mined from the backroads of my brain. Rest is english). I'm in the middle of a small clearing nothing of note with a few trees surrounding me and a sun that instinctively says [Morning!].

Breathing in the warm air I check my body, no injuries, no tools, no hunger, thirst or any aches and most shocking of all… no clothes.

~Yawn… hmm, so another life abloom I see?

  *Yes… who are you, friend?

~You and think more no need to give our posture away to the beast thirty-five meters away to the right from that tree.

  How can you tell?

~Ya know who kept your sorry butt alive for the last 12 minutes before you gained conscious?

Not really, how long have I been here?

~You don’t know, spent a quarter million years trying to discover that through many convoluted methods, heh caught yourself on tape once. Just pop… went your head as you tried to watch it.

So my appearance isn’t the first?

~Yes and no, you will discover that answer eventually, now a couple goals for you to accomplish while I work on figuring out what this new body is and fixing any of natures oh so lovely nurse murphy's mistakes.

  Murphy?

~Just a running joke through incarnations she he not with this planet, is the representation of nature. Just a boring fact that hasn’t much use.

  Mind telling me your goals?

  ~Make a weapon -> Find Water -> Create Shelter -> kill something for food/clothing.

  Weapon… what're my options?

~Find materials first, sweetheart you’ve done this more times than breaths you will take in this entire life. Its ingrained in our soul by now… if it wasn’t impregnable in the first place.

Walking through the forest and avoiding that beast at the start, with the voice giving me directions to the nearest stream. Picking up a few sticks here and there alongside a sturdy vine pulled from a tree the sound of rushing water enters my ears and a river of life comes into view not long after.

With the second task finished I sit down and rest my feet in the water, grabbing the vine and sticks I think for a moment then like instinct a thought comes to mind…

This narrative has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road. If you see it on Amazon, please report it.

After half an hour of experimenting my hands forge three objects. A sharp wooden spear made from the sturdiest stick sharpened through one of the dried stones with a broken edge. A small sling to hold the spear on my back and… a thing?

Like a ball and chain but made of nature rather than steel. I gather these up and head to the forest… voice anything nearby to kill?

  ~…

~ huh? Oh, yea… eh? Want to kill a corpse? … no that’s already dead. Anyways loot that thing to your northwest, no west. Yea, I wonder what a dwarf is doing all this way in a forest like this. There's at least 25 miles from civilization.

Following my directions after ten minutes of walking a rotting smell starts to develop. Emanating gasses that tickle my intestines and try to convulse me into vomiting A partly rotten corpse of a short man lies on the ground, missing his head and much of his internal organs and flesh what remains are clothes too small to fit me and broken bits of metal from what was once an axe. Nothing too useful but still thick cloth can be cleaned and used in a myriad of ways.

Walking back to the river a new sensation hits me… hunger.

Grabbing my spear, I weigh my options on how to alleviate it vegi…

  ~FISH

  Fish it is.

  …

  …

Next, to the river I ready my spear putting my hand in the water I disturb it a little to attract attention…. A fish changes direction and charges at my fingers.

  Ten meters

  Three meters

  Now.

Throwing the spear at it squares it directly on its right fin and its body, crippled in movement it still tries to swim away but my hands are faster than it.

Leaving the gutted three horned fish with small barbs on its tail, which ill name horny pike, to dry on a stick I gather some twigs, bark and dry grass. Just something that feels natural, gathering them in about five minutes I feel as what to do next but… unsure of how to proceed.

~See those stones over there? Yea grab two of them about the size of that fish's head and bash them together.

Following along sparks rain down and eventually, a bit of the grass is lit on fire. Putting the now descaled and gutted fish over the fire to cook I grab some cloth scrapped from the corpse of the little guy and start washing it in the water.

  ~Done

  Thanks, myself.

I finish with the now 95% free from blood shirt and eat the fish meat. While the taste is lacking It sates the hunger.

Fed and some accomplishments, what else could I want to end the day on?

~A bed of course… and maybe a woman or two.

A bed, yes… a woman is nice when you thrive, but I merely am here to survive.

~Glad to hear ive got a brain behind the steering.

  Steering?

  ~Just ignore it.

So what am I to do for shelter?

~Eh lemme look for the blueprints… Desert shelter, no. Jungle canopy… ah, here it is Forest section. Huts, teepees, and caves. Ya, remember any caves?

No rock outcropping or cliff to support one.

~Your stuck with the basics then, lemme grab the thought… … … and there.

What hit me felt like a knife scraping the inside of my skull for a few moments before it cleared up and… instructions came to mind.

~Painful, limited in usage but effective.

  Warn me, please

Sifting through the information I first find a few trees a decent distance apart and use nearby vines to set up a hammock. After an hour and a half, I finish just in time for the sun to set. Grabbing my spear I head back to the water for another fish and only return with little light to spare.

Grabbing the two flint stones I bash them together, but the flames remain troublesome as the little stack of dried delights refused to light the first couple of times. Eventually I settle down on the roughly crafted yet comfortable hammock lulls me to sleep ending my first simple day… unless you count the dwarven corpse earlier.

Expectations for the next chapter are limited as the next note reads :
