The Day The Machine BREATHED

  GEARSONG

CHAPTER 1: The Day The Machine Breathed

  17th Century, 10:23 PM, January 1st

The factory woke with a shuddering scream, A parasite crawling from some ancient dream. It slithered through vents with a venomous glide, And welded its will to the steel inside.

Gears spun like jaws in a hungry trance, Pipes writhed and twisted as if they could dance. The smokestacks bellowed a guttural cry, And the world learned how a machine can lie.

It marched from the valley on ironbound legs, A titan of rust that devoured and begs. Its tendrils reached cities with whispering might, Turning day into ash, turning hope into night.

People fell silent, their minds overwritten, Their bodies enslaved, their memories smitten. The oceans grew still, the forests grew thin, As the parasite factory tightened its grin.

But two souls remained in the ruins of dawn— Two sparks in a world where the light had withdrawn. They hid in the shadows where the dead winds blew, The last beating hearts in a world turned askew.

They watched as the factory towered above, A monument built from the death of all love. Yet still they endured, though the darkness grew near— Two voices unbroken by terror or fear.

And somewhere beneath all the metal and grime, They swore they would fight till the end of all time. For even when hell takes the world in its stride, Two survivors can stand where the rest have all died.
