Ten years ago.
The air was filled with Tritium, chloride, krypton etc, which made it all the more harder for the surviving creatures to even breathe.
The sky was darkened, no light came from the past. The present was nothing but darkness. And the future…there was no such thing.
Eight-year-old, young Asashi, gazed into the sky. Wearing a mask and goggles, his eyes watered soon. Little shaky breaths escaped the respiratory mask.
He picked up a stone that was bigger than his fist and threw it into the sky. Only for the stone to fall back a few metres away.
His teary eyes seemed to search for something within the sky, but all he could find was dust and darkness.
“Asashi!” A loud voice suddenly called from behind.
Young Asashi was suddenly jolted by the thunderous voice. He turned abruptly. A man’s figure outlined through the thick air.
He took each step slowly, and like that he stood in front of Asashi. He had rough skin and scars on his hands. His hair was turning grey at the sides. But his brown eyes were identical to Asashi.
Asashi slowly raised his small hands covering his nose and mouth. With small shaky breaths he said, “I don't want to lose you too, Grandpa.”
Back to the present.
“Where are we going?” Glen asked as he followed behind Asashi. Though Asashi was walking, Glen had to jog every few steps. This was because people didn't see him and kept blocking his way.
Asashi, however, neither sped up nor slowed down. He just kept walking at his pace, momentarily forgetting Glen.
‘Why are there too many people? There are too many planets, should I send each one to different planets when I'm the field Marshal?’
Apparently, Asashi has his own worries and concerns.
“Asashi!” Glen called out again.
This time, he glanced behind, “Yeah, what?” His eyebrows arched as he waited for Glen to catch up with him.
This book's true home is on another platform. Check it out there for the real experience.
“Where are we going?” Glen asked again with a charming smile on his face.
Asashi clicked his tongue as if annoyed, “You will know that when we get there.” He said.
Glen was happy he got an answer, nodding his head he once again trailed behind Asashi.
After walking for a minute or two, they stopped in front of an iron door. On it a screen played field Marshal Ayub’s picture.
Two men wearing full suits which were powered by antimatter stood guard on each side with an electro-blaster gun.
Asashi nodded at them to open the door. The two guards glanced at each other before looking back at the two young soldiers.
Seeing their hesitation, Asashi's left eye brow arched up, “Did you guys forget what happened last time?” He asked in a low, deep voice.
One of the guys flinched slightly. He pressed a button on the gauntlet of his suit, sending a message. After a second, the picture on the screen went off and on almost immediately.
But this time, a living Ayub stood there. He stared at Asashi through the screen then said, “No.” Just that, nothing else.
Before Asashi could even respond the video went off and was replaced by a picture. Asashi and Glen stood there with their jaws dropped. Speechless.
Asashi quickly turned to look at Glen and pointed his finger at the door, “Hmm!” He grunted. His stern look and his ‘hmm!’ was enough for Glen to understand what his dear friend meant.
The two guards were trying their hardest not to laugh when a dazzling brightness blinded them, “Fire!” Asashi shouted.
As soon as those words echoed, Glen released the trigger. An electric-ball, the size of a fist flew towards the iron gate. The guards both jumped sideways, narrowly escaping from the blast.
A huge blast destroyed the iron door along with its walls and security measures. Dust and wind kicked in. The wires and tubes quickly caught fire.
When dust cleared up a little, Asashi with a triumphant smile walked into the room past the blasted door.
“That was so rude, Grandpa!” Just as Asashi said that, somebody jumped on top of him and fell to the ground.
It was a girl no older than Asashi himself. Her black hair fell before her eyes and her milky smooth skin made her a feast for eyes itself.
“Hey there, Wu Lin! Still feisty as ever I see.” Asashi said smiling.
Wu Lin didn't say anything as she choked him even harder.
“H-Hey, go catch the one who fired.” Asashi said, biting his lips.
Wu Lin raised her head to look at Glen who was packing his blaster. Asashi quickly twisted her hand and rolled.
Wu Lin grunted in pain as Asashi twisted her arm into a submission.
“Asashi, what are you doing?” Ayub finally asked.
“I hear you have formed a team to go find suitable planets?” Asashi asked as he let go of Wu Lin.
Ayub pinched his forehead and sighed, “The team is already selected. I don't have any spare positions for you.” He said.
Asashi laughed wryly, “Who wants a spare position anyway. I have an alternative plan. Select two teams to go to two planets.” Asashi said, “That way, we can minimize the time.”
The other soldiers and officers inside the room talked among themselves, “That is actually a good point.”
“But wouldn't that require more wastage of resources.”
“As long as one of the planets can sustain life…”
After a while of short bickering, they settled down. One woman stood up from her seat. Her skin wrinkled and her grey hair tied up in a bun.
“I think the brat said not a bad idea. Field Marshal, we must consider the time we got here. Earth is dying. Every second a new volcano erupt. It's only a matter of time before a sixth great disaster occurs.” She said, her voice strong and firm.
Ayub didn't say anything as he glanced at all the remaining soldiers' faces. And in turn, everyone nodded at him, including Asashi and Glen, who was getting hand cuffed by the guards.
“Well, if that is the majority’s decision, then we will do that.” Ayub finally said, “As for the team one, Salvino will be assigned to take his unit with him. And team two will be assigned to Wu Lin and her unit. Along with Asashi.”
Wu Lin glanced at Asashi and clicked her tongue, “Now I have to take care of you? What a pain.” She said.
“Which planets are we assigning them to?” The old woman from earlier asked.
“Since a trouble maker is on the team, I will go to Andromeda.” Wu Lin said.
Asashi just smirked and looked at Ayub in an innocent manner.
“Fine.” Ayub nodded, “Logan and Maya will join your squad. They found this planet first and their expertise will be a great help for you to scout it. As per their current studies, this planet has a high wind rate.” He said.
“Team two, leader Wu Lin is assigned the mission of going to Andromeda and scout the potential planet a.k.a ‘PLANET-B’” The elderly woman from before announced.
