Chapter 25

I sat on the couch with Harper as Michael was laying out the game plan of how we were going to sneak into the control room.

It had been a week since I had encountered the Dark Lord in the floadon and the trembling had not stopped. It had gotten much worse and more violent as time went on.

People were starting to notice that something was going on and were discussing it in the halls, whispering amongst themselves. I myself had been hearing rumors that a professional strike team was going to be showing up at the academy's doorstep to fight whatever was causing the trembling. People were claiming that school was going to be shut down for the day so the teachers could help fight whatever it was that was causing the rumblings.

"Here is the game plan," Michael said, jolting me out of my thoughts. "Harper is going to distract the guards, do some flirting if you know what I mean. Wyatt is going to be doing something heroic drawing all sorts of attention with his gold armor and I will be sending in one of my bots to take a video of whatever is on the monitor. Sound good?"

  Harper raised her hand.

"You want me to FLIRT with the guards?" she sounded scandalized. Michael sighed.

"Just do something to distract them so my bot can slip in okay? Though I think you flirting would be by far the best solution."

Harper looked at me and rolled her eyes while I gave her a goofy grin.

"When will this all start?" I asked Michael, still laughing at the little assignment he had given Harper.

"Everyone will start their distractions in approximately ten minutes so I'd get moving if I were you."

We did and when my timer on my flesh-watch went off, I summoned my armor and started walking down the halls as casually as I could, making sure I had my shield up and I had plenty of reserves in case I needed them.

It was fun watching people attack me and their attempts having absolutely no effect whatsoever.

I maybe did that for ten minutes before Michael gave me the cue that I was good to get out of there. I plunged into the earth and erupted back out in my cave from which I rushed to the dorm room. I didn't see heads nor tails of the old man.

Harper and Michael were both waiting for me looking excitedly at a robot that Michael was holding in one of his hands. Once I got there Michael synced our flesh-watches and played the footage that the little stealth bot had captured.

  It was horrible.

In the middle of the screen was a mountain and hundreds of little flies were hovering around it firing some sort of substance at it.

And the mountain was fighting back.

It would let out a wave of pure darkness and knock all the flies down so it could seemingly walk a couple of steps making the ground shake.

More and more flies started to attack and again and again they would bite the dust. I could even feel a little bit of fear from the video like I had felt when I heard the Dark Lord's voice. Whatever that thing was, it was powerful.

Suddenly, the spybot flipped its point of view and looked at another screen that was a map. It said Behemoth 5 and I gasped as I saw the behemoth was heading straight towards us.

The drone footage abruptly cut out.

"What was that?" Harper said staring at the empty screen. Michael was also staring at it like the end of the world was coming.

"I think that whatever that monstrosity is, it's coming our way," Michael said. "And one thing is for sure: they are putting all their resources into taking that thing down and yet it looks like they're struggling."

I didn't even know what to think about it. The blank screen just stared at me silently as I thought and every time I came to the same conclusion in my head.

"I have to do something," I mumbled to myself. "I have to go store up more and more vessels of matter so when that thing comes I can fight it."

Harper nodded her head and grabbed my hand, squeezing it nervously. We stayed like that in silence for a minute until Harper let go of my hand and put her hand on my chest. When I looked down I realized that I had subconsciously summoned my armor.

  I stood up shakily.

"We should go start to prepare," I said. "Goodness knows how long until that beast gets here but when it comes I want to be prepared."

With that I got my lazy butt off the couch and made my way towards where the airships were kept. Harper and Michael followed me and soon enough we were back in the air hunting down large creatures so I would have a chance taking on the Behemoth.

That day was very successful as we tracked down many of the floadons and I successfully captured the matter into my little capsules for future use. That night I went to bed exhausted but fulfilled. At least I was doing something.

In the morning I woke up expecting to go to class but instead I got news from Michael that class was canceled for some reason.

I figured it must've had to do with the rogue behemoth so I decided I might as well go exploring with Michael and Harper.

I ended up collecting quite a bit of Matter and when we got back and walked past the security room I noticed that there weren't any guards standing in their usual positions so I did what was reasonable: I walked right in.

As quick as I could I found the monitor that showed the map and any spirits I had plummeted. The behemoth was a whole lot closer than it had been when we had first found out about it. The little label on the corner said that if it kept at its current pace it would reach the academy in three days.

That was not nearly enough time for me to prep for what was coming. Even if I had a year something told me I would need more time. Three days? Forget it.

I sighed and left the room to go tell Harper and Michael the news. It kinda crushed both of their moods but at least we knew what was coming.

For the next two days we worked so hard collecting capsule after capsule of matter for me until I had to store it in a little cabinet in my armor. It was hard work and it didn't help that the shaking was growing more and more violent with each passing hour.

At the end of the second day I went to sleep only because Michael and Harper forced me to. If it were my choice I would have been out collecting matter until the morning but they said that I would need my rest.

As soon as my head hit the pillow I was out like a light.

I woke up in the morning to alarms going off and Harper smacking me in the head hollering at me to get up. I could see the panic in her eyes.

As fast as I could I summoned my armor and got out of bed to stumble into the common room stifling a yawn.

Harper and Michael were both waiting for me. Harper ran up to me and gave me a big hug while Michael merely nodded.

"Thanks," I said tears welling up in my eyes. "Thanks for everything."

I left the room before I would start crying and initiated my boosters going straight up through the ceiling until I was hovering above the whole of the academy.

What I saw was not good, not good at all.

The behemoth that the academy was on was trying to get away from the behemoth that was on the other side of the field that encircled the academy. It was hard to watch but I looked on as warriors flew at the swirling dark mass that was around the behemoth and fell to the ground, although most of them were swallowed up never to be seen again.

I broke into all of my reserves with a single thought and suddenly burst into a light as bright as the star that lit our solar system. Before I lost control I put a shield of glowing energy around the academy, hopefully shielding them from harm.

With that done I swooped down heading straight to the behemoth but before I could get anywhere close I was met by a thick, black tendril the size of a house.

I quickly shielded myself with matter and responded with my own tendril that was the size of a skyscraper. I quickly made the black tendril dissipate but it was just replaced with another one.

I fought these tendrils one after another and felt my own tendril get weaker and then flicker out. I strengthened the shield around me just in time as darkness completely enveloped me.

With everything I had, I expanded my shield pushing the dark matter away. Even I could hear the explosion. Then I heard a voice in my head, though it wasn't the godly woman that popped in from time to time.

"Unidentified fighter," I heard over what I figured was some type of radio comm. "Are you here to help or hurt?"

I grunted something about helping as I blasted another tendril out of the way.

"Please state your species," the voice said. I swatted a tendril away from me and said something about being human.

"Strange," I heard the voice mutter over the line. "Uh, I guess you can help fight then if you want. Just keep doing what you're doing. The behemoth seems to be putting all of its energy on you."

I turned off the flesh-watch as it was just distracting me. I kept destroying the tendrils with fiery passion but no matter what I did they just kept coming.

I hated to say it but my matter was running out quickly and I would probably only last another five minutes unless I did something.

I sighed as I plunged down into the earth, covering up my tunnel as I went to recuperate in my cave.
