A Chapter 13 Preparations(8)

Within the massive dark green tent of the military camp.
Ril Milena(POV)
It had been embarrassing... Having to apologize like that. It had been my fault. I had accepted that, but the heat in my cheeks refused to abate for the moment. I had allowed my emotions to cloud my judgement. I was supposed to be an adult, not some tantrum throwing school girl! I was an intellectual! A person far more intelligent than that buffoon, yet, I had just embarrassed myself infront of Luthor!
So, I did the only thing I could to escape the embarrassment. I broke away from the contingent, including my mother, by walking further away, towards a table that had caught my attention in the distance. Of course, she had been worried, but I had reassured her that I was fine with a smile I didn't feel. She had picked up on that, as always... Because she was my mom, the person who had raised me. But, she also knew that I needed to resolve this on my own.
As I walked through the tent, I analyzed what I could have done better, coming to one simple conclusion! I should have just kept my damn mouth shut! David's words had gotten under my skin! I was still asking myself why his words could do that. Could it be that I had been so shaken by his threats on that balcony to the point that I had wanted to salvage my pride by leveraging the fact that there were others who could stop him should he try to murder me?
I paused in place upon feeling a building rage towards my previous self. Taking in a deep breath, I decided to banish everything into the depths of my mind. More important and exciting things were waiting for me to explore. If I kept simulating about what might have been, I would not enjoy the day. And that, could not be allowed!
My steps continued towards a table where new frequencies of Spiritual energy were being displayed within transparent squares. There were only two new frequencies it seemed, with one green, giving me the feeling that it was plant related, while the other was grey, an unknown. The reason why I could tell that they were frequencies was the fact that they were enclosed within cube shaped transparent containers which were being fed pure spiritual energy through the circuits. Though, the most obvious signs that gave them away were the frequency modulaters, the two silver spheres resting atop each cube.
"Good morning, soldiers..." I greeted the two, the moment I arrived before the table. I had debated whether to use a military salute, but since I was dressed like a civilian, that greeting was far more appropriate. I also wasn't certain that I would manage to get it right as I hadn't paid enough attention during that time the soldier from the four wheeled vehicle had come to pick us up.
"...can I get an overview of what I am looking at here?" I asked, genuinely excited at the prospect of learning about the two new frequencies.
"..." one of the two soldiers, a man old enough to be my father judging by the lines etched into his face and the sparse white hairs in his black military haircut, cleared his throat. "... These new frequencies are... We haven't really settled upon what to name the green one, but it has the properties of sprouting, growth, nourishing... And a few others, all related to plant life. The other one is far more simpler. It's just plain rock.

After answering, he turned a dial, with the metallic sphere resting above vibrating at such a high frequency that my eyes failed to miss it. When that happened, the Grey energy that had been somewhat liquid in nature, having settled at the bottom, started coalescing into lumps, many of which turned into grains of grey sand, before merging when the dial was cranked close to its highest, turning into a singular uneven piece of grey stone, a rock.
"Are the rocks permanent?" I asked, intrigued. My eyes were glued at the head sized solid rock piece within the transparent cube in fascination.
"I am afraid not. Spiritual energy particles can only mimic the frequency. Without it, these rocks will turn back into spiritual energy and disperse into the atmosphere. Though, when the frequency was targeted towards a naturally formed rock, it induced permanent changes within." he explained succinctly.
"What were the results?" I continued asking, my hand on the chin, with my eyes boring into the man.
"Well... On actual rocks, their density could be increased or reduced. Hardness can also be controlled. And it is not limited to those two either. Many of the properties can be adjusted by tweaking the frequency."
"Okay..." the prospects of that were staggering, but I was more interested in the emerald energy within the other transparent container. The containers weren't exactly mere containers though, after all, they had been manufactured using the only material that could allow the movement of spiritual energy within itself without any loss, a material that had come to be termed as spiritual glass. It wasn't as fragile as real glass, just that the name had been coined by someone, and since there had been no better alternatives, it had stuck.
"The green energy... What can it do? And what are its limitations?" I jumped straight into it. Since Mr. Luthor had announced that he would share everything with our States, I wanted a preliminary understanding of these new spiritual particle frequencies. The others were still mesmerized by the various weapons and accessories, but I knew that this was far more important that the other things.
"The green energy is mostly inert. It is the reason why we don't call it wood energy. It can't create plants or anything out of itself, though, we do believe that such a frequency should exist-"
"You mean there should be a frequency which could... Theoretically create plants out of itself?" I interrupted in shock. Good thing I hadn't squealed in excitement or that could have been far too embarrassing!
"Yes. We believe in the theory that spiritual energy particles can mimic every single permutation of the atoms in the known universe... Even lifeforms." he added, much more quieter.
"An interesting theory. Though, mimicking us would probably require a number of frequencies that we ourselves couldn't even begin to imagine! Not to mention the fact that they would have to harmonize well." I supplemented.
"You are right about that. I was getting ahead of myself. We haven't even managed to successfully merge two different frequencies together..." he sighed heavily at that. "... Anyway, this frequency acts upon all flora. It can germinate seeds and speed up their growth all the way to the harvesting phase. Though, it can't rejuvenate plants that have reached the natural end of their cycles."
"What does it do about the nutrients and the need for sunlight, not to mention all the other basic needs for the plant?" Though excited by the applications for this particular energy, I still kept my head on my shoulders.
"We believe it acts as the substitute for almost everything the plants need to fuel their growth, though, we also believe that it works only if all the conditions for the plant's growth exist. We haven't managed to sprout a seed on a plain surface unless we pour water on it first."
That was interesting. Could it be that in order for it to work, it had to have templates it could mimic? Ah! So, that's why the rice was being cultivated in the swamp!
"That seedling, did the amount of water you provided stay the same upon sprouting? Or did it get consumed?"
"It was consumed, though minutely. The theory is that the energy could have pulled moisture from the air, but we haven't tested it in a vacuum to conclude." he explained.
"Then that means that even if the need for resources isn't truly mitigated, the expenditure is severely reduced." I concluded, my heart pounding excitedly within my chest. The green energy was something we needed in Milena! It was going to revolutionize farming!
Of course, the rock frequency couldn't be discounted too, since construction would need such a frequency. We could even create the exact type of rock needed for a specific purpose! I placed both my hands on the table to steady myself. It seems I had gotten so excited that dizziness had started to take hold because my mind was working in overdrive, conjuring up countless possibilities.
I took a deep breath to steady myself after allowing a few minutes to pass in such a hyperactive state. My mother had to be told of this! I turned around, with my gaze first gravitating towards Mr. Luthor, engaged in a conversation infront of a table, with David trying to reach for one of the two pistols quietly resting there, before I forcefully averted it towards my mother, who was standing infront of a pair of binoculars, quietly resting upon their table.
'Maybe I would dpo that later.'
