Some time later, I awoke in another of those comfy hammocks. I stretched and grunted as I worked out a bit of soreness. I had purged my regeneration from consumption and relied on my high Vitality, which I realized now still left one feeling a bit stiff.
“What the hell was that beam?” Cari asked immediately after I woke up.
“I tried something new and overextended a bit. How long was I out this time?”
“Just about half an hour,” Gregory answered, a similarly curious expression on his face.
“Okay, good. Give me a bit to go through my system stuff and we’ll get to the black cube thing.” They both nodded and moved off to the side, rummaging through the debris. I pulled up my notifications. I knew the first ones would concern the consumption of concrete gorillas.

The diminishing returns sucked, but the other gains made it worthwhile. As with most games with leveling mechanics, it naturally took longer to level up the higher level you were. As such, I knew the rate would eventually slow down, as evidenced by the single level gained.
DING! Class: Hypocrite Revolutionary has increased from Level 27 to Level 28.
If only I could find some much higher leveled enemies. Maybe the blue beacons were crazy high level now? I’m sure this tutorial had a lot more in store for us as we neared the end. The rest of my notifications did not disappoint.

Feast Bolt. Inferior. Using your internal energies, you have manifested your endless hunger into the Feast Bolt. This bolt of hungry energy will eat away at any physical or magical materials it contacts, and cause significant damage to living foes.

Feast Beam. Uncommon. Using your internal energies, you have manifested your endless hunger into the Feast Beam, maintaining the connection to your ever-ravenous core. This beam of hungry energy will eat away at any physical or magical materials it contacts, and cause extreme damage to living foes. If the living foe is slain with this beam, the being is consumed within the beam and returned into your core as if you had consumed the enemy.
A two rank upgrade! Nice! Plus, consuming things with the beam sounded like it would be much, much faster than manually, though I would probably still do that because I liked the taste.
DING! Profession: Neophyte Enchanter has increased from Level 13 to Level 15.
DING! Race: Omins Vorare has increased from Level 20 to Level 21.
And some levels too! I really needed to work on my profession. Maybe the cube things could help. Before rising from my reading, I checked my status again.

My vitality and strength were getting monstrous, though my Health could use a boost to get closer to my Mana and Stamina. I was considering the reasons that Health was affected by only Vitality while Stamina and Mana were from two stats added together when I received a tap on my shoulder.
“Are you ready yet?” Cari asked impatiently.
“Yep!” I said, hopping off the hammock and stretching. “Heading to the black beacon still?”
“Hell yeah!” Gregory pumped his axe hand and threw his axe, leaping away behind it.
A flash of green and a vine reached to yank Cari away.
“I’m coming,” I darted between the two buildings toward the next challenge, ripping small chunks of concrete and popping them into my mouths as I went.
Kilometer after kilometer passed quickly as we moved, stopping briefly here and there to fight some groups of monsters, which I held back to give them the lion’s share of experience. They were kind enough to let me eat the remains of their hunts, and I enjoyed the improved regeneration of my stamina as we moved deeper into the city.
