Chapter 18: The Library end!

Trixie walked with caution and with great care, Shiori-sama was no longer here and she hadn't entered the great library since she had left. Trixie still missed her, but Shiori-sama had explained her, if they ever played extreme hide-and-seek and Trixie was unable to find her when the time was up.

Then there was a chance that Shiori-sama would take some time off for vacation. And Trixie had been unable to find her, but she would keep her promise and not use the might of the White Family to find Shiori-sama.

"Are you sure sure sure extra sure that we need to see it?" Trixie asked when they were a few rooms away from the great library, "We can go to the study! That one is right here!"

Good thing they were near the study, Trixie could use this as a way to distract-

"Yes," Nanny Mary didn't even think and answered as such, "We will have a few classes there, so we will be going there either way."

Trixie deflated a little at that, she didn't like libraries. She had already said as much, but she would go there, perhaps Nanny Mary would make something different?

Trixie had noticed that Nanny Mary seemed to be different from all the other peeps that she had met. Perhaps she was like Shiori-sama?

People acted differently with Shiori-sama than they did with the other peeps in the Mansion.

Something like how people acted differently to Trixie now that Papa was wielding his power as the Knight of White in the open, unlike how it was before, when he only used it to entertain Trixie before going to sleep.

Trixie hoped it would be like that, she missed the times she had gone to the library with Shiori-sama, she would always read for Trixie! They would take the books and make a pillow fort and read!

Or Shiori-sama would read while Trixie would look at the cute images!

"And so this is your library huh..." Nanny Mary said as she opened the double doors and they walked into the library.

The smell of books hit Trixie like a slap and she clutched at the hem of her dress, Nanny Mary still pulled at Trixie and so they walked into the library.

"Welcome Lady of White!" The new Librarian saluted Trixie and bowed to her, "What book would you like to peruse? We have the full collection of all the books you ever showed interest in and a few ones that we thought you would love."

Trixie paled at that, she couldn't believe what he was doing!

  He was speaking aloud!

  In the library!

The head-maid and the Librarian would have their head!

"You are...?" Nanny Mary asked, her voice somehow sounded low, Nanny Mary knew the hidden rules?!?!?!?

"I am the new Librarian for this sanctuary of knowledge." The person said turning to Nanny Mary, "Lord White had to replace the librarian a few weeks ago so I am still getting the hang of what they want, usually the families have a theme they want to invest, all I got was buy the books that the Lady of White would like to read."

"So what do you have for us?" Nanny Mary asked looking at Trixie.

Trixie looked up and saw Nanny Mary nod at her. So Papa hired this one after the mean one left?

"So for starters, we have all the children's books available to the public and a couple that aren't allowed." The Librarian said pointing to two series of bookshelfs, then moving on "All the educational books from learning to read to learning to draw, a couple history books and a few on chemistry..."

Then the Librarian moved on to the next series of bookshelves, each with a weird drawing on the side.

"We have a few novels, some history books, and a few papers," The Librarian carried on moving from bookshelf to bookshelf, "A few of the publicly available books on magic and..."

Then stopping near a part of the library that was delineated with chains, the Librarian turned to look at Nanny Mary, then at Trixie. As if thinking about if they wanted to speak or not.

"I assume that is the way to the books that one needs an active circle certified by the association to peruse?" Nanny Mary said pointing to the chains that delimited the area from the rest of the library.

Focusing the power of her ToyBox into her eyes, Trixie could see that the air around that area felt different to the rest, as if the effect of the ToyChest didn't spread well into there.

Trixie hadn't seen that anywhere within the Mansion or her playyard, so that was a surprise.

"That would be correct Miss... Oh pardon me, I got over my head since I didn't have visitors yet." The Librarian said turning to Nanny Mary, "My name is Arthur Penrose, Head Librarian to the White Family."

"Mary Lindon Tayer, " Nanny Mary did a small curtsy and introduced herself, "Currently the new Nanny assigned to Trixie White."

"Welcome to the Family," The Librarian said smiling to Nanny Mary, "But it may sound weird coming from me as I just joined a few weeks ago too, I am still getting the hang of it. At least the commute isn't bad since they gave me a room besides the wage... God bless the live in wages, wouldn't be able to afford a house in this sector, and they do let me order books set to my tastes too."

The Librarian pointed to a part of the library that was less... cared for. Trixie didn't know if she would ever be interested in that part, it felt weirder.

"But yeah, you will need to provide me proof of your circle or a signed paper from the Magical Association, that is to say. I will need a certificate from the Tower." The Librarian said, bowing slightly, "If you want to peruse this area without such things, I will ask you to get Lord White to remove me from the area first so I can claim that I was not aware of that fact."

"That is deliriction of duty." Nanny Mary said shaking her head, "I will not do such a thing, I was told of this work because of the Tower so they are already aware I am here. If they want to prevent me from teaching Trixie they can say so themselves."

"You are?" The Librarian asked surprised, "... I thought they wouldn't allow Lady White to learn magic... Not with all the bad rep she has."

Bad rap? Trixie didn't rap! And if she did, she would be the best at it. But rapping wasn't cute, it was of low-class gangsters! Papa said so! Trixie liked more to sing like an idol!

Help support creative writers by finding and reading their stories on the original site.

Who even heard of rapping idols? That didn't mix!

"Reputation matters not in education," Nanny Mary said, yeah! You tell them! "And I am not fully convinced in what they say about Trixie, so far she seems like a good kid."

"I am with you in that, not a single person within this mansion has complained about her." The Librarian said nodding, "If she were truly as they describe the second coming of the Daughter of Evil, then the servants would gossip about it. All I have heard are good things so far."

  But Trixie was!

She knew the story! It was one of her favorites! Shiori-sama always told that one!

  She made the best impression!

"Speaking off, do you have the whole saga here?" Nanny Mary asked the Librarian, "You should have it, if you truly stockpiled all the fairy tales and children's books."

"That I did," The Librarian said nodding along, "I was worried that Lord White would find a problem with that, but when I asked, he gave the go-ahead."

Of course Papa would say that, he also knew that the series was Trixie's favorite! He knew the story and told it the best of anyone (Perhaps only Shiori-sama could tell it as well as Papa, but only some chapters of the story!)

"Good, I plan to use a few of those in my classes as teaching aids." Nanny Mary said, surprising Trixie.

She could make her favorite story... into a class?!?!?!?!

Trixie wasn't sure if she should be scared, surprised or happy!

"Yay!" For now, Trixie declared her happiness to the world, then as soon as she saw the smile on the Librarian...

The world started spinning, her hands started tingling as she remembered where she was...

This was... the library... A place were one must read in silence, those were the rules, the rules must be always enforced... To those that broke the rules... Punishment awaited.

"...." The Librarian's eye started to cloud as a red malicious glint started forming, Trixie could see them reach into their belt, were the punishment rod stood.

The wood paddle... It was stained red with Trixie's previous punishments, and the figure of the Librarian slowly started shifting into the actual Librarian, one of the esteemed persons responsible for making sure that Trixie was a good maid.

  "*Snap*"

The sound of someone snapping their fingers broke the glass and Trixie saw the world break around her.

"Huh?" The... paddle was gone? The same good person from before was standing there all confused, "Huh? What...?"

"That would be enough for now," Nanny Mary said nodding, "Thank you for your time Arthur. We will return at a later date... Or not, I'll have to decide later."

Then doing a small curtsy, Nanny Mary offered Trixie her hand. She took it and looked around with some lingering fear.

"Trixie... is not getting punished?" Trixie asked, stumbling the words out, she was... she didn't want to... she didn't want to wake up.

"Did you do something bad?" Nanny Mary asked as she kneeled to look Trixie straight to her face, at no moment did Nanny Mary release the hold of Trixie's hand.

"Yesh..." Trixie nodded, she knew she had done the bad, she couldn't deny it, denying doing the bad meant the hurt would be longer.

"What was that you did and that it was bad?" Nanny Mary asked. Her tone was still sweet, she wasn't mad? It didn't look like she was mad. She didn't look mad in Trixie's eyes.

Maybe...maybe she wasn't mad? But could that be? So far, only Shiori-sama hadn't been angry with Trixie in these circumstances! Only Shiori-sama understood Trixie!

"Trixie...Sorry." Trixie shook her head from side to side, a proper maid didn't speak in third person, "I raised my voice... In the library, disrupting the people reading."

Trixie wasn't even supposed to be there! She was going to be scolded! The head-maid would scold her! She would not let Trixie eat dinner!

"That is true," Nanny Mary suddenly said, the world started spinning, Trixie knew it, she wasn't an ally, she was an adult, all the adults lied to Trixie, they were bad people... Trixie was going to go hungry, but it was fine, she was ready for that, she had snackies on her Toybox for that reason, she would be fine. "But, did you say sorry?"

  Hah?

"I'm....sorry...?" Trixie said confused, why would that matter? Only real apologies that mattered were those that could be proven to be sincere, and nothing was more sincere than swollen hands.

"So?" Nanny Mary nodded and then turned to the Librarian who was looking at them confused, "Would that suffice as an apology?"

"...Of course," The Librarian took a few seconds to process, but soon enough they started nodding and kneeling beside Trixie too, "Thank you for apologizing, but it's fine, we don't get that many visitors. I will tell you when you are too loud, if I don't say anything the people reading here will not mind either."

  They... they wouldn't?

That was wrong, there was no way they wouldn't. Only real people were allowed in the library! Trixie wasn't allowed there for a reason!

"See Trixie?" Nanny Mary said turning to Trixie again, "The librarian said you weren't a bother."

  She wasn't?

  She... Could come back?

  Really?

"Really?" Trixie asked as she turned to look at the Librarian, for some reason the Librarian turned kinda blurry, "Can... Can Trixie come back? Even though it isn't part of her schedulededed?"

"Of course you can!" The Librarian nodded fast, it was kind of funny, "You can come and I will get you any book you want, want to read about cats? Dogs? Birds? Candy? I have them all, if not I can get them for you!"

  The happiness was shortlived.

"Trixie... doesn't know how to read." Trixie said deflating.

"You don't?" The Librarian seemed surprised about that, but why was he surprised? "Hmm....Lord White was pampering her too much?"

Papa? Papa was not the reason, he wanted Trixie to learn to read too! That was why Trixie had attended all the classes with Shiori-sama!

"We will fix that soon," Nanny Mary said from the side, "That is within the lesson plan, and the reason why we will include those books I asked about before."

"... Ah yeah," The Librarian said nodding, "You want to teach her to read by using a book she likes. Not a bad plan, I will get them ready and all the basic reading books. I will see about getting some notebooks too."

"Thank you," Nanny Mary said to the Librarian. "There you have it Trixie, you don't need to be afraid about the librarian, or not this one."

"Yeah!" The Librarian said nodding too, "I would go as far as standing in front of any danger before letting a little girl like you in danger!"

"..." Trixie wiped her face, she was not crying, cute girls didn't cry.

"Let's go then, back to your room." Nanny Mary stood up and started walking once again, "We do have some stuff to talk about before calling a day."

Trixie followed after Nanny Mary, she totally didn't turn back to ensure the Librarian didn't go back on their word...

And totally didn't spread her Toybox to ensure the other Librarian didn't come back, she had seen them for a second, she knew they weren't away like the other bad people that used to live near Shiori-sama.

She knew it and now had proof of it!

Maybe the Head Maid was around too?!?!?!?

"And we are back," Nanny Mary said pulling Trixie into her room in this Mansion, "I have so many things to complain to your father, but first let's get your side."

  Complain to Papa?

  Was he in danger?!?!?!?

"First... Who did you see?" Nanny Mary asked as she pulled Trixie into the bed and sat her there, then kneeling in front of Trixie, she asked again, "What scared you that bad?"

"..." Trixie didn't know if it was safe to say, all the good people she had told her about this had disappeared before, she didn't want Nanny Mary to go away.

She seemed like a good person.

"You don't have to worry about me," Nanny Mary said, right, she could use her witchcraft to cheat, "I am a Sorceress, someone who has a fully formed Circle and several at that. The only person in this Mansion that could give me trouble because of the number of circles they have is your Father."

  She was that powerful?!?!?!?

Papa was like, the most powerful person here! Trixie knew it better than anyone!

"...The Librarian." Trixie answered looking around, "And... Even though Trixie hasn't seen it, she knows the... Head Maid is around."

"Hmm...." Nanny Mary nodded, "I assume you don't mean Arthur. And as for this head maid... I assume it isn't one working for The White Family?"

  Trixie nodded at those words.

"The one that works with Shiori-sama's family." Trixie said, "Shiori-sama tried several times to get them away because they like to bully Trixie, but she didn't manage, Trixie hadn't seen them since Shiori-sama went away tho."

"Shiori-sama again..." Nanny Mary said rolling the name out of her tongue as if thinking, "Do you know her full name?"

"Of course!" Trixie said nodding as fast as possible, she knew her name the best of all! "Yagamine Shiori-sama!"

The best friend forever that Trixie could get! And the only person besides Trixie's family that was good with her!

  Shiori-sama!

"Oh..." Nanny Mary said surprised, of course she would be surprised! Not many could boast of knowing Shiori-sama as Trixie could! "So the Princess Heiress to the Family that would claim the title of Yellow..."

"Yes!" Trixie nodded, Shiori-sama was the only person who Trixie wouldn't mind getting that color, she would love to have it too, but Shiori-sama was the perfect fit for it. She even had a twin like the other Yellow family!

  Shiori-sama was perfect like that!
