Unstoppable

Breaking through the darkness, I invade—burning every corner, every morsel, beyond ash and residue.

Burn. Burn. Burn. Burn it all.

Let me be the core as I watch it all burn away to nothing.

I began as a tiny ember, scared to show who I was. Scared to reveal myself. Too scared to speak up and let the world know I exist. Same old story—it’s not different from anyone else’s, really. I was just another office worker, someone too insignificant to glance at twice. So small that everyone I looked to could never notice me.

Who would care that the guy who eats his lunch alone had anything to say? Who would concern themselves with the loneliness of a grown man?

Of course, that was until it happened.

And oh, how lucky I was.

The Cataclysm changed us all. Some became what they always knew they were. Some of us turned into what we could be.

Me? I became the only thing I never thought I could be.

  Powerful.

True power is the ability to affect the world around you in whatever way you see fit—be it destruction or construction. I swear I never intended for it to get this far. One thing led to another, and just like a fire that starts with a leaf and ends with a forest, I came to be.

  And I came to conquer.

The day it all happened, I was in the office. The person across from me aged rapidly before turning into dust, and the one beside me began vomiting acid that burned through more than just his clothes. Sparks caught in the wires, and before I knew it, the whole building was going down in flames.

  But somehow, I survived.

  No—I thrived.

At first, I panicked. People were dying; of course I panicked. But eventually, I realized the flames didn’t hurt. I felt them seeping through my pores, reinforcing my cells.

  It felt good.

  It felt right.

The person who walked out of the fire wasn’t the one who went in. My skin carried a faint red tint, my body stronger and more defined. With the physical changes came confidence. With survival came followers.

Embers. Little sparks waiting to grow and join the flame.

I have a responsibility to my people, so I fight, and I burn, and I make sure no one and nothing gets close to what’s mine. I can’t let anyone get too close—otherwise my flame will grow low. Too low to burn.

All I am is a flame eternal, burning bright and spreading to everything my fire touches.

  I am eternal.

  I am unstoppable.
