The Metarealm

Zelig’s hand grasps the sand beneath him. The cold wet air around him, and a strange purple sky above. Zelig touches the back of his head with a wince, feeling the pain from the strange light that took him to this place.

With a hop, Zelig got up, the air was heavier than he remembered air being. It was only purple sand for as far as the eye can see, with humanoid looking stones embedded into the ground.

Each stride across the purple sand caused the sand to kick up slowly, and then dissipate.

  “What the hell…”

Zelig punched the ground in frustration, causing the sand to move away from that spot revealing another humanoid stone structure buried beneath the sand to be unearthed.

  “Woah… what is this?”

Zelig touched the stone embedded into the ground causing a brilliant light to shine again. A vision appears in his head, of a man whose face is covered, punching through another man, it rewinds to the start, showing the man, who looks to be from the eastern continent, using a move on the masked man.

“Mr. Mask man… what the hell are you doing.” Zelig said in awe

The man in the mask blocked each attack that the eastern martial artist was using, without a lick of magic being emitted from both.

The vision ended and the statue started to crumble.

Zelig got up and started practicing the moves he saw in the vision, he threw a single punch, which only caused more sand to kick up. He saw the moves that the masked man was doing, being replayed in his head over and over again and replicated them, again and again and again.

“I seem to be getting the hang of whatever this is.”

Zelig’s punches grew more and more accustomed to that of the masked man whom he saw in the vision.

As soon as Zelig finished his last punch, the sand kicked up and Zelig developed a headache before the light in his mind reappeared and enveloped him.

Zelig blinked, thrice, back to his room, the birds chirping outside. He could feel the cold sweat radiating off of him. He got up and walked to the door and went downstairs to get the communal hose to wash himself.

As he went down, he saw Marie staring at him, with a distressed expression.

“W-who are you and what are you doing in my house! I will scream for enforcers!”

“Marie… what the hell are you talking about, it’s me! Zelig!

“Zelig! Zelig! Help me! Call enforcers! Someone broke into our home!!!”

Zelig walks up to Marie and grabs her by the shoulders, shouting “Snap out of it! It’s me! Whats wrong with you!”

As if broken out of a fugue state, Marie recognizes Zelig.

  “I-I… Zelig… That was you?”

“What are you talking about! How did you not see that it was me!”

“I don’t know! I just saw you and looked away in fear! I don’t know Zelig!”

“Marie… did I seem like, a martial artist?” Zelig asked.

“I’ve only ever seen them in carnivals, but they seemed like how you just did… Zelig… how did you do that? You… scared me.”

  “I’m learning martial arts.”
