You Have to Kill Us

And right there, memories began to resurface.

At the age of 18, Reinhart was poisoned on a mission with his best friend Leo. They were surrounded by multiple enemies ranging from A to B ranked Sentinels. It was an elaborate plan to end his life. In order for Reinhart to survive, Leo sacrificed himself.

"Just make sure you show those jerks from the main branch that a man from the side branch can also be great." Those were Leo's last words to Reinhart.

He blamed himself for Leo's death and felt that he had betrayed his friend's trust and loyalty. He became more reckless and selfless, putting his life on the line for every mission.

Eventually, he was promoted to Grade 1 A Ranked Sentinel and appointed as the lieutenant of Squad One.

When he was 23 years old, he faced his greatest challenge, which was also his final battle.

An awakened demon monarch, who had amassed a vast army of evil creatures and curses, launched attacks on different galaxies, intending to destroy them and create a new world order.

Astrovia, and its nearby planets Vigora, and Nebula all recognized this threat as a common enemy and agreed to work together.

Reinhart was charged with the responsibility of leading an army of warriors to stop the demon before they reached their galaxy. It was a special grade level mission.

The battle was fierce and brutal, and many lives were lost on both sides. However, he realized that his current power was not enough to defeat their current enemy.

It was the first time Reinhart's power has a god slayer awakened. It was a spontaneous awakening born out of the desperation to prevent the demon and his army from reaching their galaxy and claiming more innocent lives.

But he was incapable of controlling this power and as a result, everyone around him was killed including the demon monarch.

He lived with disappointment in himself after that. A man who promised to protect but always ended up Killing those around him. A few months after, he resigned.

Now Reinhart realized why Kai's face had seemed so familiar but he couldn't attach him to a memory. It was because he had never actually met Kai.

He also didn't recognize the name Zack, but he recognized Leo. And Kai was non other than Leo's brother.

"It can't be..." Reinhart froze in place. "It—"

The mistakes he had made earlier, the errors he had regretted for years, Kai was an embodiment of his Karma for them. And now once again, he had put the people he was supposed to protect in danger.

Meanwhile behind him, while struggling to process his words, Layla and the others were still battling with the searing pain coursing through their heads.

"Is this the effect of his technique?" Layla wondered aloud, her voice strained.

"This isn't his decay ability. Don't tell me... Another ability?"

Kai had a third magic ability called "Psychic Enthrallment." This ability let him probe the minds and emotions of anyone he touched, creating a mental link.

This link not only gave him access to the target's deepest secrets and fears, but also allowed him to manipulate their thoughts and actions, bending their will to his own.

However it required him to maintain contact for at least 30 seconds, which made it impractical in real life against strong opponents.

But that gap was now easily bridged by Omega Genesis. Merely standing in that world was equal to being in contact with Kai.

Here, the effect of Kai's technique combined Psychic Enthrallment with Necrosis. It destroyed the target's mind and left only room for Kai's commands.

It was like wiping out a hard drive and installing a new program.

Kyle and Violet were huddled together, "Yeah, it's official," Kyle groaned. "This is the worst day of my life..."

"Is there anything you can't turn into a joke?"

They suddenly felt a hand on their shoulders and looked up to see Levi standing, unaffected. "What the—" Kyle was shocked.

"That System thing's really paying off for ya..."

"Right..." Levi said, averting his eyes. He had even forgotten there was something like that.

After all, it was nowhere to be found when he needed it, and had not appeared since then. It was just like back when it disappeared when he just arrived at Astrovia.

But he didn't mention anything to his friends about it.

A small purple barrier suddenly emerged, surrounding Levi, Kyle, and Violet and they felt the pain in their heads vanish.

"What's this?" Violet asked, looking at Levi. "Is this—

"No." Levi caught her off knowing she was about to ask if it was the system. "This aura, I've felt it before..."

  "It's Zenon."

"He must've put a protective spell on you." Kyle said. "You really are living the royal life..."

A blurred movement passed the corner of their eyes and they all turned to see Riley charging at Reinhart.

She threw a punch at his face with full force. Reinhart was instantly snapped out of his daze and blocked it. He grabbed her arm and tossed her aside.

"it's started..." Reinhart muttered, as he looked at Riley and the others.

While the others succumbed to Kai's technique, Reinhart resisted the most. It wasn't that Kai's technique was not affecting him, he was just simply resisting it.

"What?" Riley's eyes widened as she regained her senses. "What did I just do?"

"R... Reinhart," Layla managed to say, as her body moved towards him against her will.

  "I... I'm doing my best."

  "You have to stop this."

Before he knew it, they both attacked him. Reinhart held back. He didn't want to hurt Layla and Riley. But he was too weak to subdue them easily.

He parried and evaded every strike they launched at him. Riley and Layla were also fighting back. But it was a losing battle. Their minds were slowly being erased.

Lian, who was skilled in telepathy, managed to slow down the effects of Kai's ability on herself. But she couldn't stop it completely.

She used the time she had bought for herself to create barriers infused with formulas she had just devised.

These barriers had a telepathic and spatial effect that slow down Kai's ability on anything inside them and partially severed them from his world. The inside was basically like a separate space cut out from their current location.

She used these barriers to shield the students and ease their pain a little. That was the best she could do at the moment as she was barely managing to even stay conscious.

The strain on her body and mind pressed its weight on her, beginning to manifest physically. She began to bleed out from her eyes and nostrils but she held on knowing she couldn't afford to fall.

Reinhart continued his struggle to restrain Riley and Layla without harming them too much. He sensed a presence behind him. It was Lian. She had created a barrier shaped like a shield and charged at Reinhart.

Reinhart pushed Layla and Riley away with his palm, sending them flying a few feet. He turned and crossed his arms to block Lian's charge.

The barrier shattered when it hit Reinhart. To stop Kai's technique, there was only one way. Cancel out Omega Genesis.

And there were only two possible ways to do this. The first was to either overwhelm it by creating one's own world which was bigger or more refined. The second was to completely destroy it.

But Reinhart didn't have the power to destroy Kai's world, and he didn't know how to use Omega Genesis.

He had to find another way out and there was only one person he could trust to do it.

"Lian," Reinhart called her name, as he grappled with her. "Please... how? Tell me... how do I stop this?".

He heard Kai's laughter ring out and looked back to see a sadistic smile on his face. He clenched his teeth and looked back at Lian.

  "Please, tell me how—"

"Kill us!" Lian screamed, coughing out blood. "You have to Kill us!"
