Chapter 11: The Pasture Has Been Upgraded
Went back home, took a bath and fell asleep. Before sleeping, I thought about checking if the grass in the space can be grown tomorrow morning.
The next morning, I woke up to find it was still dark outside. I found a bucket and brought in a small vacuum cleaner. After thinking about it last night, I decided this thing is useful, so I left it on all night and the points should be enough for now.
After busy in space for half a day, only collected half bucket of grass seeds. Not tired, but the vacuum cleaner ran out of power.
As soon as they had some space, the sky was already bright, heated up the leftover beef soup from yesterday, one person and three dogs had a full meal, left the skin egg at home to watch the house, took Tiger Head and Garlic Head, drove the four-wheeled vehicle to stroll around the pasture, looking for a good place to plant grass seeds.
In the tall grass of Qi's thigh, it opened for more than half an hour and stopped in front of a large pond. The pond is about the size of a football field, and after observing around, several white-tailed deer were found drinking water, looking at Ju'an, and ignoring him to continue drinking water.
You rely on Laozi's land to drink Laozi's water and eat Laozi's grass, without even a greeting. Do you think you are an official of the heavenly dynasty? In two days, I'll bring my men and offer you as a sacrifice to the Temple of the Five Organs.
The tiger and the garlic head both sat up, their eyes fixed on the white-tailed deer, motionless as they watched, then quietly and stealthily made their way to where the deer was drinking water.
Jū ān had already gotten off the car and was observing the pond, thinking of releasing all the fish, yellow croaker, and other aquatic animals from the space into it, so that in the future when eating them, there would be a good explanation.
I was thinking, when I suddenly heard two loud barks. Upon looking, Garlic Head and Tiger Head were chasing a small deer, seemingly the same one that had been drinking water at the riverbank earlier. The two of them were working together, with one chasing from behind and the other preparing to block off the deer's escape route, as if they were trying to drive it towards me.
Watching the little deer's frantic appearance, Ju An shouted: "Tiger head, garlic head come back", the two dogs stopped chasing the deer and wagged their tails to climb back onto the car.
The seeds of the pasture grass in the bucket were moistened with water and scattered along the lake. After scattering the seeds, the pond felt bare, so a dozen or so vines were cut from the fence of the space and inserted into the edge of the pond after being moistened with water. Under the cover of the tall pasture grass, the vines and space grass were not very noticeable, although they also grew extremely fast.
Then scoop up the fish from the pond in the courtyard, fortunately, I bought a dip net at home, it's that kind of thing with a triangular frame on the front and a mesh mouth on the edge.
No matter what fish, they scooped out more than a dozen nets in a row, and more than ten large green fish were caught, which were poured into the pond in one go. Afraid that the fish would not adapt to the new environment, two buckets of water from the earth pit were also poured into the pool.
After busy finishing the fish pond, I sat down and carefully observed the surroundings to see how the space grass had grown. After opening up the pasture, I saw that the deep green space grass had spread out in a large area, with a great momentum.
Actually, Ju An only observed the ground, in the picture layer, what Ju An couldn't see was that the transplanted vines, although short and just above his knees, had fine roots that were constantly spreading outwards. The space grass also extended forward along the base of the vines, the roots growing non-stop, and the space grass continuously producing seeds, which fell off and sprouted again, the small seedlings' roots tightly combined with the vine's roots.
The roots of the wisteria are like a natural water pipe, constantly providing water to the space grass, and it's equivalent to getting a free biological irrigation system.
Of course, Ju An didn't know any of this. He only knew that the space's grass was growing very well and the leaves on the dozen or so vines had changed from a bright green to the same dark green as the space itself.
Start the four wheels, then move forward, and after a while, I saw my own pasture. A wooden stake about chest-high was inserted into the ground, with an interval of about 6-7 meters between each one, wrapped around three layers of barbed wire on top. Following the stakes for a while, I saw that one of them still had an old wooden sign hanging from it, which read: Private property, no entry allowed.
Along the way, I saw a few more of those white-tailed deer. They were leisurely eating grass in the pasture, and I guess they all came from under the wire mesh fence. After walking for a while, I also found a den of red foxes. The big fox took the little fox away in the blink of an eye.
Looked up at the sky, the sun was already high, and then headed towards the house.
The four wheels stopped, and the egg skin wagged its tail to welcome it. It rubbed its head twice on the egg skin's head, then praised it a few times before walking into the vegetable garden.
The entire vegetable garden is no longer the same as yesterday, with only earthy tones. The green tomatoes with a hint of red, the thumb-sized small cucumbers, the fist-sized winter melons, the palm-long bean sprouts and loofahs, and the half-high Chinese cabbages. The whole vegetable garden is full of vitality.
After careful observation, there is no obvious sign of growth. It's only when things are safe that one can put their mind at ease. If Old Thomas and the others were to come and see these things growing at a visible rate, it would be big trouble.
A large pool of water in the single-person bathtub at the door was slightly added with some water from the soil around it, and then several nearby tomatoes were tried again. As long as a small half cup is diluted, it's safe, and if you look closely, you can see it.
After finishing these, I started making lunch, which was the same as yesterday, but this time I cooked less.
After lunch, I continued to tidy up the room. Actually, there's not much to clean up. The property agent has hired someone to sweep and mop, even the books in the bookcase haven't been moved, and the fridge, TV, etc. are all fine. There's even satellite internet available. Unfortunately, I don't have a computer here, my old one was sold when I was in Jiangnan. I'll buy a new one in a few days, but considering they're all English systems, I plan to bring one back from China next time I go home.
After sweeping a few times, I moved out a rocking chair and sat under the corridor outside the door to take a nap.
Just as he was enjoying a sweet sleep, a sudden burst of urgent barking startled him awake. He opened his eyes to see an F-450 pulling a large trailer heading in their direction - Old Thomas and the others had arrived.
"Stop it, you three water-wasters!" said Ju An, standing up from his chair.
After a while, the big truck arrived beside the house. Old Thomas got down from the front passenger seat: "Hey, Ann, we didn't arrive too late, did we?"
"Right on time," said Ju An, looking at Hui En and Nancy who had just jumped off the car.
Then he saw the three guys behind: "Oh, these three guys are really big".
"This is pidan, hu tou, and suantou." Before he could finish speaking, the few of them had already surrounded the three people sniffing around.
No matter what these three guys said, after chatting with Thomas for a few sentences, Ju An helped them move their things. Originally, Ju An wanted to let them live in the two-story big house, since he was alone anyway. Old Thomas refused, and then chose the first room on the left, while Hui Wen chose the second room.
Nancy chose the last house on the right hand side, near the stable.
When helping old Thomas move, it was discovered that Thomas himself had brought a saddle, bridle and lasso. Upon seeing Nancy and Wayne also bringing their own saddles, Old Thomas explained: "As a cowboy, you can't have your own horse, but you must have your own saddle."
Nancy has more stuff, a bunch of cosmetics and clothes, and also brought several rolls of leather.
When helping old Thomas move things, Ju An also took a look at the worker's house. When he looked around the ranch, he roughly glanced at it and went in to take a look. Thomas' room had a small living room, a kitchen, and a bathroom of about 5-6 square meters. The area was approximately over 50 square meters.
Thomas was very satisfied with the room and told Juan that the conditions were much better than his previous job on a farm. During their conversation, Juan learned that on farms you don't need to provide cowboys with well-made meals, just offer free meat and they buy their own vegetables and cook for themselves, so each room has its own kitchen.
Thinking about it calmly, this is actually quite relaxing and also saves the kitchen maid's money.
After Old Thomas and the others had packed up their things, Ju An took them to have a look around. When they entered the big vegetable shed, all three of them looked surprised.
Thomas pushed aside a few leaves and looked at the fist-sized tomatoes: "They're growing really well, our vegetable problem is solved. Looking like this, in two days we'll have some tender shoots and can eat them." Then they continued to look around, all three of them happily checking out the cucumbers and loofahs.
"If only we could plant some carrots, horses love to eat them," Thomas said regretfully.
"The bok choy is a bit sparse, I'll sow some seeds in between the bok choy in two days." Ju An thought to herself: "I only remember what I love to eat, but forgot that Ma loves to eat carrots."
Then he looked at the stable and Thomas said, "The stable is fine, but we need to buy saddles and bridles." Ju An raised his head and saw that the saddle rack was empty, and there was no sign of the bridle. As for the sweat pad, it's not even worth mentioning.
After hearing Thomas's words, Ju An nodded slightly.
After checking the garage, granary and other places, especially the small machines in the garage, Thomas found that they were all well-maintained and did not need to be replaced. After finishing this, several people returned to their rooms to prepare dinner.
