Chapter 32: Moving out

  Kian Goldmaul POV

It has been a month since I took the Godspire Academy entrance exam.

I am currently at my parents' house in the backyard training with my bow. Although I can shoot anything as long as the bow itself is strong enough and the target is visible, I still try to keep my skills from getting rusty.

Speaking of my current level in archery, it should have been impossible, at least during my past life.

Well, it is probably because the people born in this world are different.

For example, a kid as old as I am—twelve years old—is as strong as an strong athlete in my previous life. That goes for those who have never even trained, so someone like me is easily stronger than almost any athlete from back then, whether in physical strength or martial arts. But I am still weaker than an average adult here, physically speaking.

Oh right, speaking of being twelve, I had my birthday nine days ago.

As I am training, I hear the backyard door open and see my dad.

“Kian,” my father speaks. “I got a call from Thaddeus. He told me to tell you to go over to his house.”

Huh? Well, I haven’t been to his house since my birthday, so I wonder what exactly he wants to tell me. Oh well, I should be going.

After that, I changed my clothes into more casual attire and headed over to Thaddeus's house.

I headed to the living room first and don’t find him there. I headed to the office next.

I see him in there, and the butler isn't around this time.

“Oh, you're here?” he says, moving his head away from the computer screen. “Sit on the couch.”

He stands up and stretches his arms before sitting down next to me.

He looks at me and smiles.

“Since the academy exam, you have started coming here less frequently, ever since you no longer needed to be taught by Helmut,” he says teasingly. “Do you not like your uncle anymore?” he asks while giving a fake tear wipe.

I smile awkwardly as he speaks.

He notices my awkward smile and his grin widens further.

“Alright, I didn’t call your father to send you here just to tease you,” he says. “I have some academy stuff I need to quickly explain to you before the new year starts. It’s not much, just some things you need to know about, so I will be quick. You remember when I said the academy isn’t a military academy in its pure form, right?”

  I nod my head.

“Well, that part, which we call the Public Academy, will last for four years,” he says. “After those four years, the students will be sent to different universities that belong to Godspire, and that is for the non-military trained students. As for students whose main subject was military stuff, they will be sent to a military base located next to the capital to continue studying, basically becoming military personnel before getting to the real stuff. That phase will last for two years before you actually graduate. You would likely be a 2nd tier knight by that time.”

If you spot this story on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.

“Well, that’s all I needed to tell you about the academy itself. Is there anything you have questions about?”

  I shake my head. “No.”

“Alright, and one other thing. You will be living there. With your grandparents, to be exact. Nico is also living with them. He will be acting as your legal guardian as you attend the academy,” Thaddeus says. “You will be leaving and heading there in a month.”

I nod, not feeling surprised. “Do I need to prepare for anything beforehand?” I ask him.

“No, not really. You just need to pack some of your clothes, electronics, and personal belongings, although your grandparents will likely just buy you new ones if you don't bring anything.”

  I nod.

“Oh right, I almost forgot,” Thaddeus says. “About your class, you will be attending a bit of a special classroom with other pillar and semi-pillar students. It’s for safety”

I nod again before remembering something. “You said in the two years of studying at the military base, I will be learning the real stuff. What are they?”

Thaddeus pauses and shakes his head after hearing that. “Sorry Kian, I cannot say the stuff you are going to learn in there, as they are classified information.” he says.

  …

  …

  …

After a month passed, we left the city with only Thaddeus.

After a while, we arrived at the capital, taking the same route as the last time. Immediately after arriving, we take a monorail.

After fifteen minutes, we leave and arrive at my grandparents' house.

“You're finally here,” my grandpa says after opening the front door. “Come inside.”

We enter the house and I see Nicolas in there welcoming us as well.

“Make yourselves comfortable.” After saying that, he looks toward Thaddeus. “Will you be staying the night?”

Thaddeus shakes his head. “I’ll be leaving after catching up with Nico for a bit.”

After hearing that, grandpa just nods his head. As I sit on the couch, my grandpa speaks.

“So how were the exams, Kian?” he asks me.

“They were easy,” I say. “Speaking of the exams, I saw you on the computer screen explaining the rules.”

He smiles proudly. “Well of course. I am the Vice-President, so who else other than me should be explaining the rules? As for the principal, he is royalty, and so he cannot show his face.”

  “A royalty?” I ask.

“Yeah, he was sent from the Western Region.”

I nod, not asking any further questions. After a few hours of Thaddeus talking with us and catching up with his son, he stands up and excuses himself before leaving the house. After escorting Thaddeus out, grandpa returns to the living room.

“You will be living with me until the four years of the academy finish. In two weeks, the school year is going to start,” he says as he sits down. “Did Thaddeus tell you about the academy?” he asks.

“Uh, yes, he did explain everything I needed to know,” I answer.

After saying that, I look around for a little while, noticing something is amiss before remembering.

“Where is grandma?” I say. “I didn’t see her at all after I came in.”

“She has work to do at the academy,” my grandpa answers. “She is a supervisor in there and has to prepare some things for the new year. The same goes for me, but I was able to make up some time to see you two in. She will be home before dinner. For now, let me show you your room and around the house.”

He stands up and I get up after him. As for Nico, he stays watching the television while playing on his phone at the same time. We walk upstairs. He points at the door located in front of the stairs.

“This is the office and a library.”

We continue walking as he shows me their room and Nicolas's room before reaching mine.

“This is your room. I already brought your stuff in here by making them float hours ago.”

I look at the room; it is the same room I spent the night in during the tournament day.

“Do you like it?” he asks.

“Yes, I do,” I say, nodding my head.

“Customize it however you wish, don't be shy about it.”

  I nod again.
