Chapter 22: Forsaken Arena

The doors to the manor opened slowly, and a large Foyer presented itself. White walls surrounded the place on all sides, and a big chandelier hung from the ceiling with glistening gold pieces. Elanore could see little golden carnos adorning the thing, hanging there like pieces of dino jewelry.

Red carpet graced the floor and especially the two staircases towards the back. In between them, there was a large wooden gate, and it soon became obvious why. The passageway opened, and a carnotaurus ran into the grand room.

After a ringing like a bell, a message appeared in Elanore’s head.

[You have entered Arena of the Forsaken Carnotaurus!]

Really? Its arena is a manor?

The dichotomy between the bullish dinosaur and the elegance of a mansion was jarring. Though, Ella was frothing at the mouth for two reasons. This walking energy drink looks cool as hell!

Glowing red stripes ran along its large brown body, and flames danced between the two sharp horns on its head. It was like the opening scene to any respectable boss fight. Elanore looked to the left and to the right but found no minions. I guess they didn’t artificially up the difficulty of this guy.

Ella found that to be the bane of her existence. If the game is not hard enough, don’t just spam enemies! Make the game better!

Either way, her gamer spirit was activated, and she felt jitters climbing up and down her body. She clutched her staff tightly, but a hand stayed her.

“No, mistress, this time I will handle the enemy.”

  [Inspect]

Elanore sighed, seeing that their levels were close together. She had to fight all of her urges and nodded to her companion.

“Thank you,” Naela said with a smile.

The carno’s footsteps vibrated the floor, and it was soon upon them.

Naela jumped in front of her mistress and rushed to block the swiping tail. Red flames careened from the appendage towards the wyvern, but scales formed on her forearms. The tail struck her hard, but her feet dug into the floor.

The boss roared loudly, shaking the chandelier above them, and it utilized the horns on its head next. They swiped down towards Naela’s face.

A case of theft: this story is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.

Horns collided with horns, and sparks flew. Each of the monsters headbutted each other, their force propelling either one in the opposite direction. The carno slid away and stumbled, and the wyvern slid away on her knee, catching herself with her hand.

A grin formed on her face while a drop of blood poured out of her forehead. Pink flames started forming in her mouth, and her throat glowed magenta beneath the skin.

What!? When did she get the pink flames!?

Elanore looked to see what the carno would do, and it seemed he had the same idea. Except, instead of coming out of his mouth, the flames formed between his horns. Elanore’s eyes widened when she realized they were both casting the same spell...[Scorching Ray].

Two blazing flames collided with each other, shaking the manor. Pink collided with red, and the fires splashed together at the center in a vivid array of light.

The chandelier up above couldn’t handle the shaking and fell towards Pot, but the cauldron acted before Elanore even said anything. He cast himself into her inventory, slipping away to safety.

Elanore couldn’t help grinning while watching the scene. The only thing this is missing is some nice boss music.

She pictured an orchestral sound with loud and epic...Wait no, that is definitely overdone! How about some rap as background music?

Naturally, all of those thoughts occurred before either the dragon or carno would win their spell battle. Elanore imagined that in her heightened state of sense, she could grab a bag of popcorn and eat it before it would end. It’s almost like watching a stop motion film.

Naela’s pink flames consumed the red ones, and the carno’s horns caught on fire. The wyvern waited as it screeched and charged at her head first. Once it got within a few meters, she acted.

Her arm turned into a large wing. It was a partial transformation, and she lashed out. The end of it swung towards the boss’s head, and the collision caused the creature’s skull to crack audibly.

The boss fell hard onto the ground with a loud thud, but Naela didn’t wait for it to get up with its tiny arms. The wyvern charged towards the downed dinosaur.

Her wing transformed back into a hand, and a pink spear of flame formed in her palm. She gripped it with both hands, charging at the creature’s underbelly. The flaming implement pierced through the carno’s stomach.

The boss squealed and tried to kick with its legs or lash out with its tail, but it was all for naught. The death throws only served to shorten its already ending life, and the creature wailed for the last time.

Naela leapt away from the boss and grinned towards her vampire. “Did I do well, mistress?”

Elanore couldn’t help smiling. Her hand moved on its own once more, and she started petting the wyvern’s head. “You did well.”

Naela blushed, and she pressed her fingers together while looking towards the ornate, cracked ground. The wyvern glanced to the side, taking in the torn sleeves of her dress. “I am sorry, mistress. I ripped it again.”

The vampire shook her head. “There is no need to worry. As I said, I will fix it, and it’s my fault for not enchanting it further.”

Elanore finally noticed her hand hadn’t stopped petting the dragon and reeled it in. The vampire’s cheeks turned to the same color as her wyvern’s, and she faked a cough. “Anyways, we should look to see if we got any loot.”

As if on cue, the carno started to dissipate into mana particles and eventually condensed down into a wooden chest.

The chest was framed in white wood, but it had a red carpet texture along its surface. A golden lock was at the center, but as the two approached, the chest opened on its own with a flash of white light.

Inside, the goodies presented themselves towards the vampire.
