Chapter One

Thick black smoke rose through the skies in the small village as a woman with long curly brown hair and emerald green eyes was tied up to a large brown wooden stake. Fire licked her bare feet as it rose on the stake that was set in place before the fire. A large crowd had gathered as the woman known as Lady was being executed via fire. Her crime? Not converting to a false religion with a false god.

The group that had gathered to watch her death hurled insults at her and called her “whore” and “slut.” Shaming her for not giving her body and spirit to the god Baal. She leaned back on the stake with tight brown rope around her chest binding her to the stake. There was nowhere to run and nowhere to hide as she looked up at the heavens for a savior, but none would come.

However, a green serpent slid down from a nearby tree and leaped towards the top of the wooden stake the woman was bound to. It slitter down across the surface of the stake becoming hotter from the heat of the flames at the woman's feet as the snake now hung upside down next to the woman.

“Do you wish to die?” asked the serpent. “Renounce Him and live!”

  “NEVER!” shouted Lady.

Lady refused to renounce her god. The Lord of Lords and King of Kings. But as the fire rose up and started burning her feet the pain hit the rest of her body and she cried out in pain and agony. Why was this happening to her? Why did she have to die on this day? She had so much left to live for. To grow up, to marry, to give birth to children. All of these things would never be hers as life wanted to pluck her away from it all as the snake relentlessly shouted at her.

  “RENOUNCE HIM!”

“ALRIGHT!” cried Lady. “I RENOUNCE GOD!”

Clouds began to form and thunder clashed that scared the townspeople. The snake reeled back its head and then struck the woman on the neck with a vicious and poisonous bite that killed the woman instantly. Lady had been spared from the mere torture of the flames, however her spirit was no longer one that belonged to God. For renouncing Him meant the end of such a relationship. Little did she know it however...

That she was on the fast track to hell.
