Chapter 21: The Black Lotus and the Hidden Guilt

Inside that narrow, dark cave of the Four-Colored Snake, the air felt heavy.

?The three of them were staring at one spot. There they were—two flowers of the Heart-Shattering Black Lotus.

?Each of them had a different look in their eyes.

?Captain Zhao’s eyes were wide with pure shock.

?Chen Qian’s face showed a mix of surprise and a big, greedy joy.

?Su Han was also acting surprised, but deep down, there was a sharp glint in his eyes.

?He noticed their reactions instantly. He knew right then that these flowers were worth a fortune.

?"Good thing I picked them first and took two for myself," Su Han thought, feeling pretty proud of his quick move.

?He didn't know much about the items in this world yet.

?He was someone who had transmigrated here from Earth.

?On Earth, he had read many novels and played lots of games. He understood the basics.

?But the world of stories and games is one thing—real life is another.

?In books, they don't give you every single detail. Those are just made-up stories.

?But here, everything was real. He had actually moved into this world.

?At first, it was really hard for him to adjust.

?But he had made a firm promise to himself. He would become powerful.

?He wanted to reach the very peak of this world.

?There was a certain sharpness and stubbornness in his gaze that anyone could see.

?Even though he was new here, he was forcing himself to adapt quickly.

?He needed to find a way back to his own world.

?He needed to find those people who forced him to jump into that canyon.

?Who were those men in black robes? Why did they want him dead?

?He still hadn't figured that out, so he kept those questions locked deep in his heart.

?He was blending into this world, but he hadn't forgotten anything.

?He planned to go back one day, find those enemies, and get his revenge.

?Then there was his girlfriend. He was on his way to see her one last time before he died on Earth.

?To be honest, he didn't take her that seriously. They hadn't been together for very long.

?He knew she probably didn't care much about him either.

?They were a new couple, and she would likely forget him in a few days.

?As for his family in that world? He gave a sad, small smile to himself.

?He was all alone. His parents had died in an accident a long time ago.

?He had been surviving by working part-time jobs, just getting by day by day.

?Suddenly, a shocked voice echoed through the cave, pulling him out of his thoughts.

?"The Heart-Shattering Black Lotus! This is a Peak-Grade herb!"

?Chen Qian was practically screaming with excitement.

?"We are so lucky! We didn't just find one, we found two!"

?There was a huge grin on his face as he stood there in total disbelief.

?Even Captain Zhao, who was always so cold and calm, had a small smile on her face.

?Su Han watched them and thought to himself that he had truly picked up a treasure.

?He was feeling very satisfied with how clever he had been.

?"Yes, this herb is extremely valuable," Captain Zhao said.

?She narrowed her eyes, looking at the dead snake.

?"That’s why that Four-Colored Snake was acting so desperate. It knew it was going to die."

?"It probably wanted to swallow this herb to boost its power and kill us all."

?Chen Qian rubbed his hands together, his eyes shining with greed.

?"Yes! This herb can be used to make a very deadly poison," he said with a laugh.

?"And not just that! We can sell this for a huge amount of money!"

?"One of these could easily go for 50,000 silver coins!"

  ?Captain Zhao nodded, still smiling.

?"That's not all. You can also make life-saving pills with this."

?"It can create medicine that protects you from the most dangerous toxins."

Su Han was stunned after hearing their conversation. He narrowed his eyes and whispered to himself, "How is it possible that this thing costs 50,000 silver coins?"

?When he moved into this body, he gained its memories. Even though the original owner was young and didn't know much, he knew the basics of prices.

?He knew a High-Grade Yellow-Level pill was worth about 2,000 silver coins, and a Peak-Grade one was around 5,000. So why were they saying a raw herb—just a plant—was worth 50,000?

?Confused, he looked at Chen Qian. "Brother Qian, why 50,000 silver coins? In the market, a Peak-Grade Yellow pill is only about 5,000."

?Chen Qian smiled and patted his shoulder. "Brother, you don't know. This Black Lotus isn't ordinary. It can be used to make Mysterious-Level pills too."

?"Plus, pills that protect you from poison are very expensive. They sell for way more than regular ones. A good Alchemist can make dozens of pills from just one of these flowers."

?"Even if one pill sells for 5,000, a dozen of them would be worth more than 50,000. And if someone makes a Mysterious-Level pill out of it, you can't even imagine the price."

?Su Han’s eyes went wide. He was shocked at how profitable being an Alchemist could be. He immediately thought about his System.

?He already had the Alchemist profession unlocked. He could learn it whenever he wanted. He just needed to practice, and then he could earn a lot of money too.

?His System Store had many things, and the System gave him rewards for missions, but he still needed money. He wanted to buy things for his friends and people like Chu Yao.

?Sometimes the System wouldn't give him exactly what he needed at the right time. For example, during the fight with the snake, the System didn't give him any healing pills when he was in trouble.

?He ground his teeth just thinking about it. If he had money, he wouldn't have to rely on mission rewards alone. He could just buy what he needed and kill enemies more easily.

?He made a firm decision right then. When he had time, he would master Alchemy and other professions. With the System's help, it should be quick and easy.

?"Captain, how should we divide this?" Chen Qian’s voice broke the silence as he looked at Captain Zhao.

?Captain Zhao thought for a moment and then said, "We will split them. We will take one, and we will give one to Su Han."

?Su Han was shocked to hear this. He felt a bit of shame creep up on him because he had already secretly taken two lotuses before they arrived.

?Taking a third one felt very shameless. But he couldn't tell them that he had already grabbed two. That would lead to two problems.

?First, they would see him as greedy. Second, they might suspect he had a Space Ring, which he wanted to keep a secret for now.

?He scratched his head and acted embarrassed. "No, no... you guys keep both. I only joined the mission for the reward you offered at the start."

?Deep down, he knew he only came along to get experience, but he kept that to himself.

?Chen Qian heard this but didn't say anything. He had become friends with Su Han, but he was also a member of the Iron-Fist Mercenaries, so he let the Captain handle it.

?Before Su Han could say anything else, Captain Zhao spoke in a firm, cold voice. "No. If you hadn't risked your life to enter this narrow cave and kill that beast, we wouldn't have found anything."

?"The snake would have probably eaten these by now. You earned it."

?Su Han opened his mouth to argue, but Captain Zhao raised her beautiful hand and stopped him. "The decision is made. One for us, one for you."

?She took a wooden box from her bag and carefully placed one Heart-Shattering Black Lotus inside.

?Su Han looked at Chen Qian, hoping he would say something, but Chen Qian just pretended not to look.

?Su Han sighed and nodded, moving toward the third flower. He thought he would pay them back later, but then he realized he had a problem.

?He didn't have anything to put the poisonous flower in. He couldn't take anything out of his System Store while they were watching.

?He stood there, feeling totally confused about what to do next.
