Book 2, Chapter 23- Progress!!!!

They did another lap of the city, moving fast, in case the discovery of this cell of Characters triggered the movements of others. No such luck though, and they called it a night around 1 a.m.

The exertion of the night had made even Cait break a light sweat, and she claimed the waterfall shower the second they walked into the apartment. Now that she almost never got sweaty, she found it bothered her a hell of a lot more than it ever had before. Qi had, unsubtly, tried to follow her in, but….

Honestly Cait wasn’t sure why she refused. Time was, no relationship status, concern for others, or personal confusion would have stopped her from tapping an ass that fine. Or, if she was being honest, much much less fine, even. It wasn’t like she was starved for choice, but the bar had never been high.

Blue eyes like a warm summer evening flashed into her mind, and quickly clouded with tears. She knew those tears weren’t really angry, weren’t really sad, weren’t really even surprised. What they’d been, was disappointed. So many times.

Cait sighed, leaning a hand against the wall. She couldn’t really get cold anymore, but wished she could turn the shower icy, take the discomfort as the light penance that had always been enough to sate her conscience before. She felt Kennedy, questioning, and…. nervous?

I swear, if she walks in right now I’m gonna scream

But no such luck, bad or otherwise. Cait dried off, draped the towel over her shoulders and walked to her room. She stopped as a foot caught the door before it could close behind her. She turned to see Kennedy, pale skin a light pink from the shower, and sexy in the way a girl can only be in their comfiest clothes. Cait met her golden eyes, before they flicked down, then slowly traced their way back up, her face meeting Cait’s again with one of those plump, glossy black lips caught in her teeth. That instant felt like it lasted longer than the day had, while at the same time being as fleeting as one of the pages caught in Qi’s flames.

A case of literary theft: this tale is not rightfully on Amazon; if you see it, report the violation.

“Come to say goodnight?” Cait said, breaking the silence with an easy smile. Kennedy’s breathing had been picking up the longer she stood there, and Cait felt like she could almost hear the girl’s heartbeat. Her emotions were an untenable mess of lust, confusion, nerves, fear, and…. Yeah, that was probably a little love.

“No,” she said, taking a step towards Cait. Her voice was steady, but in a way it was clear that she was forcing it to be. “My… past has been rearing its head. I’m finding myself dealing with it by fighting to get back what it took from me even harder.”

She took a step towards Cait every few words, and now she was inches away. If Cait got excited, which was seeming likely, she would be physically forced to back up. She looked up at Cait, golden eyes enormous and willfully vulnerable like Cait had never seen from her.

“So no. I’m not here to say goodnight, Cait,” she said reaching up to either side of Cait’s jaw, and gently pulling her lower. Cait could feel her breath on her lips. “I’m here to do this.”

Kennedy’s soft lips tasted like licorice. An instant ago, Cait didn’t like licorice. Now, she knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that she’d choose it for her last meal. Those lips were soft, warm, and more than welcoming. They were hungry. Cait knew, she absolutely knew, that if she wanted to, she could take everything Kennedy had to give.

More certain than any of that, was the certainty that Kennedy was doing this because Cait wouldn’t. Or she thought Cait wouldn’t. As Cait brought her hands to the back of Kennedy’s neck, opening her mouth to breathe in Kennedy’s breath before pressing back in, deepening the kiss, she didn’t know where that trust came from.

But she knew she wouldn’t break it.

  ---------------------------------------

“So, are you getting cleaned up or are we just going back to sleep sticky?” Cait asked, finally breaking the kiss.

“I kinda like it,” Kennedy said, accompanied by the kind of embarrassed smile that made Cait’s cock twitch.

“You won’t in about 5 minutes,” Cait promised, grinning down at her. “But you could also be asleep by then. Up to you.”

Kennedy glared at Cait, then wiggled back into her, resting her head on her arm and closing her eyes. After the excitement and release, she was out in less than 1.

Fuck it, I’m joining her. Nothing better than a nap after….. that.

Cait knocked out the blocks against sleep in her mind, and slept for the first time in weeks, Kennedy held tight against her.
