The Day quickly passed, though this time, Jack was mostly locked up in his room, brooding, leaving only to have lunch and dinner.
Night soon came and Jack went to bed, lying there, he felt the comfort and warmth brought to him and slowly drifted to the land of visions.
...
All of a sudden, the silence was shattered.
The comfortable warmth of his bed was replaced by unbearable heat penetrating his skin.
Barely managing to open his eyes.
All he saw was red sand everywhere.
Wind tore across the desert, relentless and violent. His vision blurred. His ears rang.
In the distance however, he saw a person.
His robe fluttered wildly, yet his body remained steady.
Jack tried to focus on the man but he couldn't make out who it was.
His vision shifted, and now, all he could see was the man's mouth moving.
Speaking something unintelligible, but the sound of his words seemed to get louder in his mind.
It felt like something was crawling under his skin.
Jack wanted to move, but his feet remained planted in the hot sand.
It almost felt like his body was not his own.
The words grew louder. Closer. He was repeating something again and again.
Jack couldn’t understand it.
He gritted his teeth and forced his body to move, but he couldn't move desperately wanting to move, to scratch the unbearable itch all over his body.
He tried with all his might, but it was all useless.
The words ringing in his head stopped all at once.
With a loud gasp of air, Jack's eyes snapped open, sweat filling his body, his breathing heavy as his dazed eyes quickly darted around for a few seconds before he recognised the familiar room.
Absolute silence.
No wind. No heat.
His vision cleared.
This tale has been pilfered from Royal Road. If found on Amazon, kindly file a report.
Many long moments later, he finally managed to calm down his rapidly beating heart and got off the bed.
"What was that..." he muttered.
'Paul never had a vision like that.' Jack thought to himself, "Who was that man... what was he even saying?" Jack clutched his head.
"It was so... loud," Jack muttered with a sigh as he glanced towards the glowing orb floating inside the room.
Standing off his bed he walked towards the window and unfurled the curtains.
An orange glow covered the sky, a marker to the sun rising soon.
The glowing orb commonly used in Caladan followed behind Jack, lighting up the room with its soft and gentle glow.
After wearing a simple white shirt over his body, Jack was soon seated in the dining room, eating breakfast when Lady Jessica walked into the room.
"It's good to see you are up early," She said with a gentle smile.
Jack nodded and continued eating.
She sat down at the table and poured herself a glass of water.
'I have a feeling I know where this is going,' He thought to himself seeing her pour another for him.
He decided as he focused on his sandwich, avoiding all eye contact.
"Would you like some water?" Paul's mother asked.
"No, I am fine" Jack responded, shutting down the test she was giving him.
Jessica paused for a moment, not expecting Jack's direct refusal.
"Suit yourself," She glanced at him as she went about making herself a sandwich.
"How long until we leave for Arrakis?" Jack asked.
"Your father says we leave in three weeks," Paul's mother responded.
"Isn't that too soon?" Jack asked.
"Yes, it's a bit soon, yesterday your father tried negotiating the time with the emperor, but he wouldn't accept. The Emperor's reasoning was that spice mining cannot be delayed."
"You don't need to be worried however, The Bene Gesserit have begun making preparations for your arrival," Jessica said.
Jack simply nodded slowly..
Later that day, Jack was walking around the large estate and noticed Duncan, who was walking the dim hallway with his battle suit on.
"Hey Paul!" Duncan noticed Paul and called out to him.
"Hey Duncan," Jack smiled, and walked towards him.
"My friend, how are you?" Duncan asked with a smile.
"Nothing much, what about you? Where are you headed off to?" Jack asked.
"I am going to Arrakis. Although Duke Leto was acting pretty weird yesterday, he told me to memorize evacuation routes around Arakeen, and he ordered me to avoid formal channels entirely on top of establishing contact with Fremen of the north."
"Oh I see" Jack nodded quietly..
'He seems to have taken my words seriously,' Jack thought to himself.
"Well buddy, I gotta get going, catch you later." Duncan smiled and heavily patted Jack's shoulder and walked away.
"Oh, by the way, Duncan, I think it would be a good idea that when you speak to them, do not mention destiny. Speak of trade. Speak of water rights.”
Jack continued his walk, his mind racing.
'Bene Gesirt have made their move, They have framed me as the Messiah.' Jack thought as he began to walk toward Duke Leto's office.
Arriving at the office, Jack knocked and announced himself. A moment later, he was asked to come in.
Stepping inside, he saw Duke Leto seated in his office, papers lined his desk as he was busy going through a document at the moment.
"What's the matter Paul?" Leto asked, glancing up at Jack.
"Father, I have been thinking about the attack I witnessed in my vision. There was something very wrong about it," Jack said.
Duke Leto's eyebrows creased.
"What do you mean, something wrong?" Duke Leto asked.
"The attack, it was methodical, it was like they knew our defense systems, they knew when we would be at our weakest," Jack said.
"What are you saying Paul?" Duke Leto asked, an idea of what Jack was trying to say already forming.
"We might have been compromised," Jack said.
"You mean someone betrayed us..." Duke Leto muttered causing Jack to nod.
"I will have Thufir look into this... If there is a knife in this house,” Leto said quietly, “we will find it before it is drawn.”
