DMS Chapter 20

  DMS Chapter 20

Because of the battle, Flinx couldn’t stay in that location to practice his spells, so he moved deeper into the forest with his owl familiar ahead of him, scouting for any monsters that would ambush him. Traveling in the forest was extremely easy for him because of his Fly spell, since he was moving without touching the ground. He was extremely grateful for his spells' unbelievably short cooldown. Thankfully, the rules that his system had were extremely different from the actual fantasy role-playing tabletop game franchise. It would allow him to level up faster.

While he was floating deeper into the forest, he thought of buying a house in the town. His main purpose was to establish a gate that he could use to magically teleport home after battling with the monsters in the forest.

Flinx thought of the system that he shared with all of the Earthlings who were kidnapped by the wizards. He was greatly thankful that it was extremely different from the actual fantasy role-playing tabletop game magic system. He couldn’t imagine how real combat would be if he had to follow the said game mechanics just like the most recent video game, Baldur’s Gate 3. He had been watching the game’s gameplay on the most famous streaming site. It was a fun game, but he didn’t know how the combat would translate in the real world.

The magic system was also highly different. Flinx had to admit that the magic in his system was easier and more powerful, probably, compared to the actual system of the said game franchise.

He still had so many things to learn. Flinx needed to learn how magical gates and transportation worked so he could establish one in the home that he was planning to own in the town. If he didn’t do so, the travel from the town to deep in the forest would probably take a huge chunk of the time on the goal of killing monsters, and he knew that the high-level monsters could only be found deep in the forest.

Flinx knew that when the time came that he would need to be truly serious in hunting monsters; his adventures in the forest would probably take a considerable amount of time. Possibly weeks, even months.

He remembered that during the first few weeks in this world, Flinx imagined immersing himself here with the goal of forgetting his experiences as a dungeon miner that deeply wounded his psyche. He remembered planning to learn everything that he could, like the names of the kingdoms or countries, the names of the cities, learning the culture, and finally finding someone with whom he could spend the rest of his life.

He imagined that someday he would have his own family that he could cherish, and he would finally be happy and forget that he was a dungeon miner. Finally, forget the torture that he had experienced. He wanted the identity of a dungeon miner to be gone from his ego.

But looking at the situation now, those plans needed to be put on hold. Flinx knew that he wouldn’t be able to forget the plight of his fellow Earthlings, especially now that he knew that if he applied himself, he would have the power to rescue them.

The problem was, Flinx didn’t know how long it would take for him to be able to reach the legendary level, which was level 20. Considering that after 2 years of killing thousands of monsters, given that it was only the monsters from the first level of a dungeon, he only reached level 7 in his class.

The only thing that he could think of to bring hope to his fellow Earthlings was to inform them of his situation if the time came that he needed to share it with them.

Flinx then remembered one fact. He didn’t need to level up to 20. That was only if he wanted to return to Earth. When he cast the Plane Shift spell, his system informed him that he only needed to reach level 15 to return to the Wizards’ world, where his fellow Earthlings were enslaved.

His owl familiar then reached another clearing, and this time, they were in luck because it seemed to be empty of any monsters or animals.

Before starting his spellcasting practice, Flinx thought of buying more spells. He finally decided not to, since if he had more spells, he would need to practice all of them to make sure that he wouldn’t make any mistakes if he used any of them. He planned to add to his spells once he mastered all of the spells that he currently had.

One good thing was, he didn’t need to practice his cantrip spells. He had already practiced all of them in the two years that he had been a slave in the wizards’ world. Flinx knew that all of the Earthlings did the same thing.

That meant that he only needed to practice the new spells that he bought, starting from level 1 up to level 7. Without further ado, he started casting his spells, decimating the area that surrounded him.

He didn’t care since he knew that the damage that he was doing in the area was nothing to the lush forest that housed powerful monsters. He knew that all the damage would be healed in no time. The next few hours were fruitful for Flinx since he started becoming familiar with all of the spells that he purchased.

Flinx was a little disappointed with the spell Fabricate, though. He could conjure items, but the items looked like they were made by a not-so-talented crafter. They were serviceable but not presentable. At the very least, they were good enough to use in an emergency. He could only use the spell to conjure basic items, though, like a chair, a table, or a bed. Any more elaborate than that, like pieces of jewelry or pieces of art, the spell would fail.

He read up on the spell, and the internet informed him that to be able to use the spell Fabricate to create more elaborate pieces, he would need to have the expertise to do so. After that, he just shrugged and continued practicing his spells.

Flinx liked the Crown of Stars spell. The spell lasted for an hour, and that meant that he could pre-cast it before an expected combat, and he would have a powerful spell that was ready to be hurled at his enemies. The spell would allow him to cast seven star-like motes of light towards enemies, and the damage, according to the internet, was insane. Given that it was a level 7 spell, the damage was supposed to be insane. It also provided light and was pretty to look at. He felt like a fairy with the glowing motes of light hovering atop his head. He laughed at his fanciful and silly imagination and concentrated on practicing his spells.

While practicing his spells, Flinx wondered if he should join a powerful adventurer group. He would probably need to do so in the future, but in the meantime, he wanted to try adventuring solo.

Flinx had also read in the book that the Adventurer Guild had given him that there was a powerful dungeon deep in the forest. It was guarded by powerful people from the kingdom of Tarmon. He knew that if he truly wanted to level up fast, he would have to tackle that dungeon, but in the meantime, he wanted to savor his time above ground. He had spent more than two years deep within a dungeon, and he felt averse to doing so anytime soon.

When he first arrived in this world, Flinx had seen through his familiar's eyes that there were powerful monsters in the forest, so before going to the dungeon route, he wanted to kill those monsters to level up. He would only go to the dungeon if it was truly needed.
