The ghosts began approaching Miri and Anne to try to attack them, with each type of ghost attacking in their own unique way. The ghost specters would try to bash them with their shields and swing at them with their axes and maces. The ghost phantoms would cast a barrage of magical projectiles from their staves to try to overwhelm them at medium range. The ghost wraiths would try to rush towards them with quick speed before slashing repeatedly at them with their dual-wielding daggers.
All the while, the two adventurers would try to fend the ghosts off to the best of their ability.
Miri and Anne placed themselves in an optimally tactical position, with Miri at the front facing the ghosts while Anne stood closely behind her and backing her up with her two supportive spells: Vital Healing and Protective Ward.
Vital Healing was self-explanatory; Anne would cast a bright-yellow magical aura to surround a target in order to heal them. Protective Ward was just as simple, casting a pale-blue magical force field—one in the shape of a circular convex disc—in front of her and Miri in order to protect them from damage.
The two worked in tandem with one another, Miri providing the offense while Anne provided the defense. They would alternate between having Miri cast a Starlight Bolt or Crescent Arc at the incoming ghosts to keep them at bay while Anne cast Protective Ward to defend them both against incoming attacks. Whenever either of them got injured, Anne would cast Vital Healing to heal up their injuries.
Upon taking damage from Miri’s attacks, the ghosts would disintegrate one after another into a mist of pale-blue particles, vanishing from existence. Also, with Anne’s protective ward in place, they were hardly able to do much damage to them in return. Since Miri and Anne had been working together for a while now, they were in perfect sync with each other—two individuals moving as one unit.

Once all of the ghosts within the vicinity had been dealt with, Miri and Anne paused for a moment to take a breather. While it wasn’t necessarily the most difficult fight they’d ever encountered, it was still pretty challenging—one that might overwhelm them if they let their guard down for even just a few seconds.
“Wow, that sure was a doozy,” Miri said, wiping a bit of sweat off her forehead.
“I’ve never seen so many ghosts accumulate in one place,” Anne commented, feeling a bit concerned. “I’ve seen less ghosts in graveyards and haunted mansions. To have so many ghosts present…this place must have been quite dreadful indeed.”
“Hey, Anne, check this out,” Miri said, gesturing to some of the corpses lying around.
Scattered throughout the area where the ghosts were present, there were corpses of various people lying around—each in varying states of decay. Some were close to being skeletons while others still had a bit of flesh left on them.
“Hmm, interesting,” Anne commented as she analyzed the corpses more closely. “All these people seemed to have been killed at different times, maybe even years or decades apart. Despite that, they all seemed to have died from similar injuries—slashed and gouged by a very large beast with feline-shaped claws and dragon-like fangs.”
“Hmm, let me guess. Killed by the Chimeragon, I reckon,” Miri presumed, to which Anne replied with a confirming nod. “My guess is that all these people came by here to try to loot the place—all from different years throughout the past century—and end up getting themselves killed by the Chimeragon. Either they were too greedy to pass up the prize or too overconfident in their ability to take down that monster. And with so many dead bodies piling up, a large accumulation of ghosts is bound to happen as a result.”
“Yes, I believe that is a reasonable theory,” Anne said, gazing at the corpses with a slight sense of pity. “How unfortunate that these poor souls were to undergo such a fate.”
“Yep, it really sucks for them,” Miri commented. “Now, time to loot the corpses.”
