Prologue: Unbecoming

A man was choking on his own blood as he struggled to breathe. He grasped for air, but the blood clogged his throat. His vision was fading gradually, and he was losing consciousness.

He was dying. No, he was turning into the same thing that had attacked him. He saw people turning after being bitten, they were no longer themselves, they were vicious, savage, and gruesome... that's what the virus does. He did not want to become like them. Screw that. He held on as long as he could, but he knew he would not last. He could feel the virus crawling under his skin, invading his system helplessly.

Stolen from Royal Road, this story should be reported if encountered on Amazon.

There were not many things left for him to do. He was just glad she got away, hopefully safe. Regrets were nothing but the past. There was no room for them now.

He looked down and saw shattered glass on the floor. A bitter smile formed on his lips as he picked up a shard and pressed the sharp edge to his throat. Blood dripped slightly as the glass touched his skin.

But before he could push it in, something inside him stirred. The virus stopped its advance halfway. His body convulsed, and his hand released the glass.

Something inside him was changing. A cold, dreadful energy rushed through his veins. He fell to the ground trembling uncontrollably.
