Chapter 12 - Flower of Hope

  Night had been laying on the ground for around half an hour at this point when suddenly he felt a slight shift in the air around him. The quiet sound of the grass being displaced indicated that something or someone was behind him.

  It lingered for a bit, until Night suddenly heard something, it was a voice. A mysterious, but soothing female voice, which said, “I can hear you. I know your pain, I know how hard it can be… How hard it can be to lose everyone you love. Don’t worry, it will all be okay. We can help you.”

  Night hesitated, but then decided to roll over to face the source of the voice while still lying helplessly on the ground. When Night looked up his eyes were met with the figure of a tall woman standing over him, her hair waved in the breeze as she tilted her head down to look at him. It was still dark out so he couldn’t quite make out the specifics of her appearance, but even in the darkness, Night was instantly captivated by her for some odd reason.

  Even still, Night was not in the mood to do anything, so he just rolled back the other way and laid in silence. He could hear a slight sigh from the lady behind him as she rustled with something.

  In a comforting voice the lady said, “Don’t wanna talk? I understand. I’ll just be by that tree when you're ready. Take all the time you need.”

  Night didn’t really care about talking to the woman right now, instead he just drifted off to sleep with no respect for the mysterious woman’s time. In the back of his mind though, there was a strange feeling that he felt from her, a feeling that he had never felt before.

  ~~~
  The sun was already high in the sky when Night woke up the next day. After he opened his eyes he laid there for a while deciding if he even wanted to get up or not. In the end, he decided to stand up only for the reason of needing something to eat and drink. He wasn’t gonna starve himself, that would just be idiotic.
  When he stood up he looked once again at the ginormous crater, and just stared at it for a bit. He had wondered about if it was truly a random coincidence or if possibly, he was the one who caused such a tragedy. He had already decided to not blame himself though, if only for the reason that if he truly was left with that much guilt, then he probably would have tried to kill himself last night.
  Night closed his eyes and tried to not think about all that right now. For now he needed to figure out his food situation. When he turned around, he was met with the image of his shabby little camp, it already looked dilapidated even though it had just been built yesterday.
  Night couldn’t help but notice something under the large central tree, it was a woman. She was standing up sleeping with her back against the trunk, it was most likely the same woman who had talked to him last night.
  She was a tall and young looking woman with many striking features which caught Night’s eye. Her long hair was of a dark purple hue and was placed in a low ponytail so that it hung down to right above her waist. Her smooth skin had a light gray tone and her ears were long and pointed at the ends. Unknowingly, Night began to stare at her for quite a while, as if he had spaced out in her beauty.
  As if sensing his lingering gaze through her dreams, she woke up and returned his gaze, looking deep into Night's eyes with a warm smile. Her dark purple eyes, unfamiliar as they were, did not give off any intention of danger or malice, they instead gave off a sense of understanding and empathy.
  Night tried to look away from her, but he was captivated by her gaze, it was as if she was giving him a warm hug with just her eyes.
  In a familiar sounding yet unknown voice, she said, “Come here, sit down. Let's have a conversation. How does that sound?”
  Drawn to her, Night subconsciously said in a hesitant voice, “Sure, I guess that's fine.”
  Night walked over and sat in front of her on the ground, the singed wood of the now extinguished campfire between them. As Night got settled, he noticed something odd about the air, there was a slight sweetness to it, like the smell of freshly cut flowers. There was also a barely noticeable slight pink tint which flowed through the air like particles of pollen would.
  Noticing Night’s curious look, the woman spoke up, “I see you noticed my spell in the air. Don’t worry it's not harmful in the slightest. The only thing that this mist is supposed to do is calm you down. Is it working?
  Night had begun to feel a warm sensation throughout his entire body, “It seems to be working pretty well. It’s like I almost forgot why I was even sad in the first place.”
  The woman looked pleased, “Good…Good… Now that you're all calmed down, why don’t I introduce myself. My name is Camellia, I'm a dark elf. I'm also a member of the revolutionaries.”
  Night spoke in an extremely calm and laid back voice, “Nice to meet you Camellia. My name is Night.”
  “It's nice to meet you as well Night. I'm sure you're very curious as to what's been happening lately, don’t worry, I’ve got all the answers you need. All you have to do is just sit back and listen to me, I know how much you’ve been through so I won’t ask you for much right now.”
  The mist was almost too much for Night, it was getting to the point where it was almost deluding his thoughts, “Uhm… Alright I’ll listen to you. If you don’t mind, could you make the mist go away now I’m calm enough.”
  “Oh sorry if it was too strong! I’ll put it away right now, I wouldn’t want it to cause you permanent brain damage… I'm kidding about that last part if you couldn’t tell.”
  Camellia popped an embarrassed half smile. Night was unamused. Camellia got up and walked over behind the tree, when she came out she was holding a large wooden longbow which was almost as tall as her. Embedded into the handle was a small pink iridescent crystal which was in the shape of a hexagon.
  When she activated the crystal, it began to shine extremely bright. In the next second, all of the gas was sucked back into the crystal where it then disappeared.
  Night looked at the crystal in awe, “What… What is that? How did that rock do that?”
  “It's just my enchantment crystal- Oh I forgot, you must have never seen one before. I’ll tell you more about those later, but for now just think of it as a crystal which gives you special powers.”
  “Okay sure, I guess I understand? Not really.”
  Camellia placed her bow on the ground and sat back down. She interlocked her fingers and put her hands up to touch her chin.
  Looking at Night she said, “You have a lot to learn. I’ll break down the basics right now, then we can go over the rest when we get back to the stronghold-”
  Night blurted out, “The stronghold?!”
  “Yes, the stronghold. We’ll have to head back soon, I’ve been out here for way longer than I was supposed to be since you fell asleep. That's why I can’t tell you everything right now, it would take way too long.”
  Night put his hand behind his head, “Sorry about that, I was kind of out of it.”
  “It's fine, I'm sure they’ll understand. I'm usually not one to be scolded about things like this.”
  Camellia slapped her knees and looked up at Night, “Alright, let's begin, I'm running low on time. Feel free to ask any questions you need to, otherwise just listen closely, I'm sure this information will be of great help to you.”
