Fire blazes at night, and sparks fly into the air as a city burn to the ground. Desperate screams are heard during these desperate times as great darkness encloses the land, and the first line of defense has failed us all.
"An untimely betrayal cost the city greatly when the waves came and now hope is lost. I am writing my final message into this journal to all who find it, the ones I could save will be colonizing new land in the hopes of reviving our culture. Jiro, Leina, Strug, Deren, Lisa, Bast, and Lokina are our final hopes and I wish them the best of luck. I never believed in the truth of diaries anyways, but if you somehow find this and they are still alive please send them my regards and my regrets. I may have seen them grow from youth and it seems my time is up.:
a deathly screech is heard outside just as he finishes writing his last sentence
"GRAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH."
A deeply disturbing creature that seems to be made of purple smoke burst into the room, destroying the door in the process and revealing the hundreds of others just outside the door. Before beginning his last stand the old man signs his journal, knowing full well this will be his last written word.
-Laurence, Final king of Lamburden
Laurence unsheaths his only weapon, a sword of deep purple color that seemed to mirror the creature in front of him. A small pulse of energy releases from the blade, his body nearly buckling underneath the strain of the mysterious power. Even if he dies at this one, none will know him as a coward during his kingdom's last moments.
"WRAAAAAAAAAA" the king cries as he charges the abomination in front of him, which seems to change between appearances at will. Clashing in a test of strength against the beast, Laurence finds himself victorious and cuts down his adversary for his mistake. A small purple glow shows on his arm as his enemy falls before him causing a slight burst of pain to overcome the final king as he steps outside his chambers into the castle halls.
Sooner than later a small group of bat-like creatures approach him. Teeth bared for a new feast and claws ready to tear. As the small glow grows bright, Laurence raises his left arm and proclaims.
"Take these dirty creatures, and be destroyed."
A beam of light flies through the air. Hitting true and slicing not only those bat-like monsters but a dozen more behind them; drawing more of them to the king. As they approach a great beam of fire turns them to ash, and a mage of small stature runs toward Laurence. Looking as if he ran a marathon. As he gasps for breath he reports to the king

"Sir I have gathered the survivors into the designated rally spot; what are your further orders?"
Laurence looks down with a grim expression, turning to the unnamed mage he words with a hollowed expression.
"I need you to come with me to the rally point. We will begin a final stand and give the expedition as much time as possible to run toward safety. Arm all the civilians present and entrench the area."
The mage looks astonished at the king, seeming to not believe what he is hearing.
"But Sir, we mu-"
"But nothing young man" Laurence forces out, looking straight into the young mage's eyes with grief and acceptance."These monsters only go toward life nearby, and we are ground zero for their invasion. If we were to run they would only follow us." - Laurence sighs as he looks over his burning kingdom.
"We need to give them one final chance; to make up for our mistake of tampering with powers we cannot perceive, and this is how we do it."
Laurence glows a slight yellow before picking up the mage and running like the wind.
"We've already wasted too much time" - Laurence laments -"The battlements could already be overwhelmed by the Consumers and we wouldn't know it yet"
With a large jump through a split piece of the castle, Laurence can glimpse a being with unimaginable looks. If he thought a normal Consumer could change physical forms quickly, this one was on an entirely new level. The only constant feature was large violet eyes, the looks of such seemed to stare into his very soul. As he cleared the jump he could swear he heard a small calling in his mind, drawing him toward those beaming eyes. A call for ho-
"Are you alright my lord, you seem to have stopped in your tracks. We may not make it to the entrenchment before they get overwhelmed." The mage sounds with worry, his bright golden eyes alight with a small orange glow as he holds a small ball of fire toward the darkness.
"I am... Fine young one, sometimes an old man can think too hard." Laurence dismisses. A Consumer bursts through a nearby window just as Laurence finishes his sentence. Forcing the pair to rush even faster, as the horde draws ever closer.
A Consumer tries to slice Laurence, which Laurence deflects with barely a delay. As Laurence rushes for the next one, large fireballs are seen flung into a small group heading for the duo, taking out all but one. The bat-like Consumer that survived dives straight toward the mage before burning to ash in a shield of fire that has surrounded the young mage. A small bead of sweat drops down the mage as he can feel his connection to magic weakening the longer they battle.
"I have enough for one large spell before I am down and out, will you be able to make it to the others?" The young mage questions, Laurence looking none worse for wear.
"You blow a hole in their ranks and I will rush us through the opening you create," Laurence affirms as he cuts down two more bat-like Consumers near him
